Morris senior guard Mike DeLuca highlighted the area’s boys basketball all-state selections by earning a spot on Class D’s Fourth Team, the highest honor among the eight locals recognized by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

All eight area picks are seniors, including Class D sixth-teamer Trevor Holdridge of South Kortright. DeLuca’s teammate Levi Decker and Zach Mudge of Hunter-Tannersville received honorable mention accolades in Class D, as did Oneonta High’s Alec Picinich in Class B.

The Class C all-state teams feature Bainbridge-Guilford’s Austin Bauerle, Cooperstown’s Ethan Bliss and Unadilla Valley’s Justin Hofer. Bauerle made the Fifth Team. Bliss and Hofer appear on the Eighth Team.

DeLuca averaged 16.4 points in helping Morris to the Tri-Valley League championship and an appearance in the Section Four Class D title game. He finished as the Mustangs’ leading scorer in three of their four postseason games, upping his production to 18.5 points per game. DeLuca also led Morris in rebounding in each of its three sectional games, averaging 12.7 during that span.

Decker’s honorable mention follows a season of consistency. He edged DeLuca for team-best scoring honors with 16.9 points per game and led the Mustangs with 36 three-point field goals - 21 more than his classmate.

The two spearheaded the deepest venture into the postseason for any area boys team as Morris’ 18-2 campaign ended with a 60-55 loss to Marathon in the Section Four Class D championship.

Holdridge averaged 17.9 points and hit 21 three-pointers for South Kortright, which lost to Margaretville, 48-41, in the Delaware League crossover and exited sectionals with a 75-67 first-round loss to Marathon.

Mudge rounds out the area Class D selections. He averaged 20.2 points and sank 52 threes for Hunter-Tannersville (15-5), which was thumped, 77-35, by Morris in a sectional semifinal.

Picinich was a bright spot in a down year for Oneonta, which skipped sectionals after finishing the regular season at 7-10. Picinich scored in double figures 13 times en route to a team-best scoring average of 14.6 points.

Double-double machine Bauerle did just about everything for Banibridge-Guilford, which finished 10-8 after a 72-52 loss to Lansing in the opening round of the Section Four Class C Tournament. Bauerle, who averaged a team-best 19.8 points, made 22 threes and finished with 21 points or better in 10 of the Bobcats’ last 11 games.

Midstate Athletic Conference rival Hofer edged Mudge of the Delaware League by one-tenth of a point for the area scoring title. His 20.3 points per game also featured 52 threes for the Storm (10-9), which lost a first-round sectional game to MAC champion Unatego, 64-56. Hofer also had four 30-point games - three better than Mudge.

Bliss’ senior season included a scoring average of 19.5 points, three 30-point outings and an area-best 63 three-pointers for Cooperstown (9-8), which fell, 68-54, to Little Falls in a Section Three Class C-1 quarterfinal.

The NYSSWA released its all-state teams at 1 p.m. Thursday.
