Four-run ninth keeps Milford unbeaten

STAFF REPORT

Addy Lawson doubled and scored, and Kaley Chase homered during a four-run ninth inning that lifted unbeaten Milford to a 7-3 Tri-Valley League softball victory at Schenevus on Tuesday.

Lawson led off Milford’s ninth with a double that rolled to the fence in center. She came around to score on the same on a botched cut-off play to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead.

Two batters later, Chase homered to right-center to make it 5-3.

Dawn Pickwick had three hits and two RBIs, Mataiah Waters had two hits for Milford (8-0, 8-0), which received seven strikeouts and four walks in a five-hitter from winning pitcher Kaitlin VanWinkler.

Schenevus rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to tie the score at 3. Taylor Spranger hit an RBI double and Dani Tefft had sacrifice fly in the inning.

Spranger also struck out seven and walked five over 8 2/3 innings.

Schenevus (3-9, 3-6) will host Worcester on Wednesday on Senior Recognition Day.
