Four-run ninth keeps Milford unbeaten

Addy Lawson doubled and scored, and Kaley Chase homered during a four-run ninth inning that lifted unbeaten Milford to a 7-3 Tri-Valley League softball victory at Schenevus on Tuesday.

Lawson led off Milford’s ninth with a double that rolled to the fence in center. She came around to score on the same on a botched cut-off play to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead.

Two batters later, Chase homered to right-center to make it 5-3.

Dawn Pickwick had three hits and two RBIs, Mataiah Waters had two hits for Milford (8-0, 8-0), which received seven strikeouts and four walks in a five-hitter from winning pitcher Kaitlin VanWinkler.

Schenevus rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to tie the score at 3. Taylor Spranger hit an RBI double and Dani Tefft had sacrifice fly in the inning.

Spranger also struck out seven and walked five over 8 2/3 innings.

Schenevus (3-9, 3-6) will host Worcester on Wednesday on Senior Recognition Day.

Downsville 14, Windham 6

Courtney Jennings and Leigha LaTourette had RBI singles during Downsville’s five-run first inning and the host Eagles went on to a Delaware League victory.

Jennings finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and teammate Callie Bullis went 2-for-5.

Winning pitcher Kaileen Townsend struck out seven and walked three in a six-hitter.

Jane Rion had two hits for Windham, which received a triple from Maggie Charbonneau.

Downsville (3-4) will travel to Eldred on Thursday.

Gilboa 18, South Kortright 0

Visting Gilboa scored 10 runs in the top half of the sixthth inning to earn a victory in the Delaware League.

Sara Coons led the offensive, going 4-for-5 with six RBIs. Coons’ day included hitting for the cycle. Shelby Oliver had two hits, including a triple, and teammate Brooke Koerner contributed two hits in the victory.

Allison McGuire pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 in earning the victory.

Chauntaul Dunckle had a double for the Rams.

South Kortright (3-6, 3-2) will travel to Windham on Thursday.

Edmeston scored six runs in the first inning en route to victory in the first game of a Tri-Valley League doubleheader.

Sam Harrington led the Panthers, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Teammates Sarah Lawrence (three hits) and Catherine Johnson (two hits) each had three RBIs in the victory.

Johnson scattered three hits and struck out nine.

Edmeston scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break open a close game to earn a sweep of the Tri-Valley League doubleheader.

Catherine Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Panthers. Johnson was the winning pitcher, scattering three hits and striking out seven.

Edmeston (10-1, 9-1) hosts Sharon Springs today.

Winning pitcher Kendal Sprague struck out 16 and walked two in a two-hitter to lead Roxbury to a Delaware League win on the road.

Sprague finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, both coming on a single in the first inning.

Tess Svoboda and Kelsey Buerge had Margaretville’s hits.

The Blue Devils (6-5, 6-2) will play at Gilboa on Tuesday.

B-G 16, Whitney Point 15

Taylor LaMont’s winning double in the bottom of the seventh drove in Rachel Smith to give host Bainbridge-Guilford a non-league victory.

The Bobcats, who trailed 10-2 after two innings, led off the seventh inning when Justine Pratt reached on an error. Cassie Safford then singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Alexis Paige.

Rachel Smith reached on fielder’s choice as Pratt was forced out at third. Morgan Shew (4-for-5 with four RBIs) then singled homer Paige to tie the score at 15.

LaMont’s double on the next play scored Smith for the winning run to complete the comeback.

“We’ve been keeping our heads up lately,” B-G/A coach Cindy Cifone said.

Winning Pitcher Taylor Palmatier struck out six. She also had her 100th varsity strikeout during the game. She finished with 103 strikeouts.

Megan Ferrara hit a two-run homer for B-G in the first inning, a shot that cleared the fence in right.

Marissa Thornton went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Pratt finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

B-G (5-6, 3-5) will travel to Afton on Friday.

Winning pitcher Kaity Richvalsky went 4-for-4, tripled and scored three times to pace visiting Richfield Springs to a Tri-Valley League win.

Teammate Rebecca Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and tripled twice for the Indians, who trailed by two after two innings.

Worcester was led by Monica Ridgeway, who had three RBIs while going 2-for-4. The Wolverines, who trailed by three going into the bottom of the fifth, pulled a couple runs back starting when Madison Wright doubled scoring Jillian Perrillo. Wright then scored off a single from Kristina Walsh to make it 6-5. Summer Rutty also had two hits for Worcester.

Worcester (6-5, 5-4) will play at Schenevus on Thursday.

Shelby Pettersen and teammate Catherine Bush doubled twice and finished with three RBIs to lead host Deposit to a win in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

Winning pitcher Justine Ellis struck out five and gave up two hits over three innings. She also had two hits.

Walton’s Kiley Lamoreaux went 2-for-3 with an RBI and teammate Cortney Miller finished 1-for-2 with an RBI double.

Deposit (10-1, 7-1) will play at rival Afton today.
