SUNY Delhi fourth singles player Sean O’Connell won an NJCAA Region III title Sunday at Queensbury.

O’Connell, the second seed, defeated top-seeded Phil Reis of Onondaga, 6-4, 6-4, in the final. O’Connell won both of his matches in the tournament.

The Broncos finished the season with a 6-5 record.

HONORS

Cobleskill softball

SUNY Cobleskill coach Mike Jorgensen earned Coach of the Year honors from the North Eastern Athletic Conference on a vote by the league’s coaches.

Jorgensen, in his first season, guided the Fighting Tigers to a record of 18-18 _ the most wins in program history _ and a 12-8 mark against conference opponents.

Cobleskill qualified for the NEAC tournament for the first time, but lost a pair of one-run games this past weekend to drop out of the double-elimination tournament.

Last season, the Fighting Tigers went 13-21, including 6-14 in the conference.

Jorgensen is a 1997 graduate of Cobleskill-Richmondville.

Also, Cobleskill catcher/second baseman Madeline DeMilio was named the NEAC’s North Division Rookie of the Year. It marks the first time a Cobleskill player has earned the award.

DeMilio batted .404 with a .469 on-base percentage and a .632 slugging percentage in 35 games. She finished with 46 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 37 runs scored and 19 RBIs.

Cobleskill athlete of the week

SUNY Cobleskill selected equestrian rider Leah DiGioia as its athlete of the week.

DiGioia placed fourth in the open reigning division in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association national championship at the Pennsylvania Show Complex over the weekend at Harrisburg.

DiGioia has been invited to the National Reigning Horse Association Championships June 29 at Oklahoma City.
