END 13, Oneonta 12

Sam Sherrill had six goals and three assists, but Elmira Notre Dame goalie Jake Rice denied him as time expired Thursday to give the host Crusaders a Section Four Conference victory.

The Yellowjackets, who finished with an 0-13 record, trailed by five at halftime and faced a 12-8 deficit when Joel Siedman scored early in the fourth quarter.

OHS answered with three straight goals. Sherrill scored one and assisted on goals by Luke Anderson.

But the Crusaders’ Jonas McCraig scored with 2:16 left to make it 13-11.

The Yellowjackets’ Jeremy Leary scored off an assist from Anderson with 32 seconds left. Leary then won the ensuing faceoff. Sherrill had two cracks at a tying goal. His first went just wide to the left and second was saved by Rice.

Anderson had two goals and two assists, Leary finished with three goals and an assist, and Jake Crotser had a goal and an assist.

“We had a lot of possessions and opportunities to score because of Jeremy Leary controlling faceoffs (in the fourth quarter),” OHS coach Jeff Armer wrote in an email to The Daily Star.
