Unatego senior Kevin Thayer won two state titles during the NY-USA Wrestling Cadet and Junior Championships, which ran Saturday and Sunday at Broome Community College.

Thayer won freestyle and Greco-Roman championships at 152 pounds during the event, beating Nigel Williams in each final.

Thayer also won the Division II 152-pound championship at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships this past February at the Times Union Center in Albany.

According to the website newyorkwrestlingnews.com, Thayer joined Lansing junior William Koll, Cheektowaga’s Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer and Warsaw’s Burke Paddock as D-II state champions who swept NY-USA titles over the weekend.

Thayer earned an automatic berth to the ASIC/Vaughan Junior and Cadet National Championships, which run July 12-20 in Fargo, N.D.
