Bauerle's 1-hitter leads B-G in Class C

It’s possible the Bobcats will face Saints standout Mike Korchak, who struck out 15 Oneonta High hitters in a shutout earlier this season.

“I haven’t seen him, but I’ve heard about him,” Mattingly said. “My guess is they might throw him against us.”

Mattingly said he hasn’t decided who he’ll throw against SCC.

Sidney 17, Greene 10

Brandon Bessett and Pat Vibbard combined for 10 RBIs as seventh-seeded Sidney rallied for a Section Four Class C first-round win at home.

Vibbard’s four RBIs came on an inside-the-park grand slam that tied the score at 6 in the third inning.

After the 10th-seeded Trojans scored four times to take a 10-6 lead in the top of the fourth inning, Sidney scored eight times in the bottom of the inning.

Bessett had four RBIs in the fourth. Billy Kozak led off the inning with a single. He stole and second and third and scored on Bessett’s sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Bessett hit a three-run double.

Bessett also had a two-run triple in the sixth that capped the scoring.

Zak Green threw three scoreless inning of relief for the Warriors (14-6), who received two hits apiece from Damian Zimmer and Noah McKee. Zimmer scored twice and McKee had two RBIs.

The Warriors will travel to second-seeded Lansing on Thursday for a quarterfinal. The Bobcats won the 2012 Class C state championship.

Trumansburg 13, UV 2

The 12th-seeded Storm pulled to 3-1 on an RBI single by Kyle King in the fifth, but Unadilla Valley allowed 10 unearned runs over the fifth and sixth innings in a first-round loss at fifth-seeded Trumansburg.

“We had a little momentum and we gave it right back to them,” said UV coach Tom Locke, whose team finished its season at 7-11.
