---- — Bow shoot set for Sunday

The Gilbertsville Rod and Gun Club, on Gun Club Road in South New Berlin, will hold its last 3D Bow Shoot of the season Sunday.

Registration runs from 7-11 a.m., and breakfast will be served from 7-10 a.m. Lunch will be available the remainder of the day.

The shoot features 40 targets with seven classes. Adult awards are given for first and second places. Juniors and Cub shooters will receive trophies.

Hall event to feature Fingers

Rollie Fingers will be the featured guest during a special Voices of the Game program at 10 a.m. Monday at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

Fingers, a 1992 Hall of Fame inductee who finished his career with 341 saves, will be in Cooperstown that week for the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open Pro-Am.

Tickets for the one-hour roundtable program cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets may be reserved from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. by calling 607-547-0397.

Fingers to host Seniors Open

National Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Rollie Fingers will serve as celebrity host for the 31st annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am Golf Tournament, which runs Sept. 3-6 at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.

Fingers will participate in the Sept. 3 Pro-Am, which begins with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start. Fingers also will speak at the fundraiser dinner later that day.

Proceeds from the Pro-Am will benefit Pathfinder Village, a residential community in Edmeston dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Proceeds also will benefit the Hall’s educational programs.

The Seniors Open follows Sept. 4-6 and will feature close to 100 of the top senior professionals in the country. Tom Eubank of Ellijay, Ga., shot a tournament record-tying 64 in the final round to win the 2012 Seniors Open.

OHS modified practices Sept. 4

Oneonta High’s modified fall sports programs will begin practicing Sept. 4, starting with swimming at 9:30 a.m. at OHS. Modified cross country, football, boys soccer and girls soccer will start at 3:15 p.m. at OHS. At the same time, modified volleyball will open at Oneonta Middle School.

Athletes must have completed health-history questionnaires and updated physicals to participate. Forms are available at the high school and middle school health offices.

O-State to hold baseball clinic

The annual SUNY Oneonta Baseball Fall High School Clinic will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 at Red Dragon Baseball Field.

Registration runs from 8-9 a.m. Sept. 8. Entry fee is $75 and may be paid on the day of the clinic or by filling out a registration form and mailing it to SUNY Oneonta, Chase PE Building 102, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Each camper will receive a T-shirt and lunch. The camp is open to high school-aged players who’ll graduate between 2014-17.

The morning session will focus on hitting and position instruction. A live game will be played in the afternoon.

Oneonta to host 5K on Sept. 8

Lower Deck Events will hold its annual 5K Fun Run on Sept. 8 at the 6th Ward playground on Scramling Avenue in Oneonta.

The race will start at noon. Race-day registration will run from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Pre-registration deadline is Aug. 29. Applications can be picked up at the Oneonta YMCA.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chief Russo Memorial Playground Fund.

O-State dinner Sept. 14

Oneonta State’s athletics department will host its sixth annual “Dining for Champions” on Sept. 14 in the Hunt Union Ballroom.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction. Dinner follows at 7 p.m.

All proceeds will support student-athlete travel initiatives and facility enhancements. The event has raised more than $90,000 over its first five years.

Free Little League clinic Sept. 22

Oneonta State will host a free Little League baseball clinic, for players ages 5-12, from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 22 at Red Dragon Field.

Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 22. O-State coaches and players will run the clinic.

Swimming tryouts Sept. 24

The Oneonta YMCA Orcas will hold tryouts for their swimming team at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Oneonta Family YMCA on Ford Ave.

The Orcas also will host a parent orientation and an information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the YMCA.

Swim lessons start Sept. 28

SUNY Delhi will hold registration for its fall swimming lessons from 8 a.m.-noon Sept. 21 at the Kunsela Hall Pool.

Cost is $45 per swimmer. The seven-lesson program runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays from Sept. 28-Nov. 16. There will not be a lesson on Oct. 12. Each lesson is 45 minutes.

Classes include Red Cross levels I-VI, infant/toddler/preschool group, adult and diving.
