SK boys top Gilboa; Franklin wins

Ty Magnan and eighth-grader Connor Woznick scored two goals apiece to lead host South Kortright to a 4-2 Delaware League boys soccer victory over Gilboa on Monday.

Gilboa tied the score at 2 15 minutes into the second half. Zach Perry received a pass from Hunter Perry and struck a 12-yard shot from the right side the far post.

Magnan scored the winning goal four minutes later. He tracked down a ball about 40 yards out before beating Wildcats goalie Phil Berger (eight saves) on a breakaway.

With 12 minutes left, Woznick made it a two-goal spread, scoring after a scramble in front of the net.

The Rams (2-0-1, 1-0-1) travel to Downsville on Thursday.

Franklin 2, Laurens 0

A Derek Beers corner kick set up the first goal just before halftime, and Beers scored just after halftime to lead host Franklin in the Tri-Valley League.

Blaine Fairchilds headed in Beers’ corner kick to make it 1-0 with 1:02 left in the first half. Beers then beat a defender across the top of the 18-yard box before scoring to the far post 2:19 into the second half.

The Purple Devils (2-1-1, 1-0-1) visit Morris on Wednesday.

Milford 4, Schenevus 0

Peyton Griffiths had three goals and one assist in Milford’s Tri-Valley League victory.

Griffiths, who had his second three-goal game of the season, opened the scoring three minutes into play.

“They’re definitely solid,” Schenevus coach Jim Huntington said of Milford, which is 3-0. “Their front five or six, they’re very strong.”

Michael Strenck also scored for the Wildcats.

Robert Burton made 12 saves for Schenevus (1-2-1), which visits Worcester on Friday.

CV-S 5, Worcester 0

Ryan Jaquay opened the scoring 23:55 into the match, sparking a four-goal first half for Cherry Valley-Springfield in a Tri-Valley League home win under the lights.

Wyatt Crowley, Jake Spencer and Dan Bosma also scored in the first half for the Patriots (2-0, 2-0), who finished with a 21-1 advantage in shots.

Spencer contributed a second-half goal for CV-S, which hosts Richfield Springs on Wednesday.

Morris 1, Edmeston 0

Ryan Morlock scored the winner with 10 minutes left in regulation to lead visiting Morris to a Tri-Valley League.

Morlock received a thoughball from Dillon Humphries that split two defenders. Morlock scored into the bottom right corner.

The Mustangs’ Aidan Staib finished with 12 saves.

“They’re a young team, but they’re fast,” Edmeston coach Ken Plows said of Morris.

Josh Nicolosi had five saves to pace the Panthers (0-2), who will travel to Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Wednesday.


at Windham CC

Dan Marino shot a 5-over-par 39 to earn medalist honors and lead undefeated Windham to a Delaware League victory at home.

Ed Moran contributed a 42 for the Warriors (8-0, 6-0), who host Margaretville on Tuesday.

Matt Anderson’s 47 paced Stamford.

at Delhi College GC

Schuyler German’s 47 paced Andes/South Kortright to a 221-232 Delaware League victory over Jefferson.

Michael Cammer shot a 54 for the J-Hawks.

Davenport’s Gavin Cobb, the lone member for the Wildcats, earned medalist honors with a 45.

Andes/South Kortright (2-5, 2-4) will travel to Roxbury on Sept. 17.


Owego 7, Sidney 0

Nicole Rajner pushed Emma Siemer to three sets, earning the lone set victory for host Sidney in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference match.

Rajner fell, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.

At first doubles, Owego’s Briann Luffman and Sara Wierbowski defeated Mariah Pierce and Rachel Maxwell, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Sidney (0-4) travels to Chenango Valley on Wednesday.
