For the second straight year, Unadilla Valley’s Jared Hanslmaier scored the winning goal against Bainbridge-Guilford as the host Storm earned a 1-0 Midstate Athletic Conference boys soccer victory Tuesday.
Hanslmaier scored on a direct kick from just inside the midfield line.
UV coach Ryan Houck wrote in an email that Hanslmaier scored a nearly identical goal last season when UV beat the Bobcats, 1-0.
“Lightning has struck twice!” Houck wrote in the email.
Hanslmaier’s goal Tuesday came with 27 seconds left in the first half.
“Hanslmaier approached the kick and noticed (B-G goalie Brandt) McCall playing far off his line, anticipating a cross,” Houck wrote. “Jared took advantage.”
Hanslmaier’s shot settled into the side netting.
Kyle King stopped nine shots for UV, two more than counterpart McCall.
“In past years, it’s always been the team that has capitalized on mistakes that wins,” Houck wrote of playing B-G, “and this year, we were able to do just that.”
