UV boys edge Bobcats; OHS wins big

Roxbury (2-2, 1-0) will travel to Davenport on Thursday.

Margaretville 3, Davenport 0

Colby Russo and Kyle Short scored first-half goals to lead host Margaretville to a Delaware League victory.

Russo’s goal came five minutes into play. He controlled a pass from Sam Gil in the box, took one touch and finished from 8 yards.

Five minutes later, Short finished a pass from Matt VanValkenburg to make it 2-0.

Cooper Reither scored in the second half for the Blue Devils (2-0, 1-0), who will travel to Jefferson on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Downsville 3, H-T 0

Kendra Lacey scored twice, Leigha LaTourette scored once, and Kaileen Townsend assisted on all three goals as Downsville won at home in the Delaware League.

“We have quite a bit of offense coming back,” Downsville coach Burt Reed said of forwards Lacey, LaTourette and Townsend.

LaTourette gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead with 23 minutes left in the first half after receiving a throughball from Townsend and finishing inside the left post.

In the second half, Lacey made it 2-0 with 17 minutes left. She scored off a cross from Townsend.

Downsville (3-0, 1-0) will travel to South Kortright on Thursday.

Davenport 5, Margaretville 0

Three goals and one assist from Sarah Haight helped host Davenport to a Delaware League victory.

Bailee Hymers contributed two goals for the Wildcats.

Hymers’ first goal came 5:44 into play. She controlled a loose ball in the box to set up the goal that made it 1-0.

Haight made it 2-0 about 10 minutes into play. She finished a pass from Alyssa Hendrickson.

In the second half, Haight scored on a restart from about 25 yards, scoring into the upper-right corner.

“That was a really nice goal,” Davenport coach Ray Preston said.

The Wildcats (3-0, 1-0) will travel to Roxbury on Thursday.
