Zeke Wright rushed for three touchdowns in the opening quarter Friday night as Groton jumped to a big lead en route to a 36-6 non-division victory at Bainbridge-Guilford in the Section Four Football Conference.
“He’s real good,” B-G coach Tim Mattingly said of Wright, who amassed a game-high 160 rushing yards on 14 carries for the Indians (2-0). “He’s fast, physical and a tough kid. He’s a quality running back.”
Wright helped Groton to a 21-0 lead after one quarter. The Indians also got touchdowns from Ryan Gunn (36-yard catch) and Tristin Cooper (19-yard run). Cooper contributed 90 rushing yards on 13 carries.
The Bobcats’ Pedro Aparicio scored the final points on a 4-yard run in the third quarter. Aparicio finished with 79 rushing yards on 14 carries for B-G (0-2), which visits Deposit-Hancock next Friday.
B-G’s Mike Carlin caught two passes from quarterback Dylan Moffit for 28 yards. Moffit finished 2-for-4.
No other area Section Four football teams reported scores Friday night.
Harpursville 3, Walton 0
Carissa Warren scored from close range a minute into play, then assisted on Kayla Schultz’s goal 10 minutes later as host Harpursville jumped to an early lead in the Section Four Division II opener for both teams.
Chelsey Brown also scored for the Hornets (2-1, 1-0), who received four saves from Katie Hoyt.
Emily Bartlett and Sam Bowker made five saves apiece for the Warriors (1-2, 0-1), who visit Tioga at 10 a.m. Saturday for a non-division game.
UV 3, Sidney 1
Hailey Benson had seven aces and three kills to lead the host Storm to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.
Sidney took the first game, 25-17, but Unadilla Valley rallied back to take the next three, 27-25, 25-20, and 25-21.
Shannon McIntyre contributed six aces and seven assists for UV (4-1), which received six kills from Mariah Bodie and seven assists from Nicole Mackey.
Paige Redmond had 17 assists for Sidney, which received 11 kills from Taylor Krom, 10 digs from Taylor Butler and eight aces from Rachel Houck.
Unadilla Valley visits Delhi on Tuesday.
