Hartwick volleyball drops two

Hartwick College dropped its first two volleyball matches Friday during the Union College Invitational, following a 25-22, 25-9, 25-15 loss to Cortland with a 25-9, 25-14, 26-24 setback to the host school.

Hannah Strom had seven kills and 14 digs against Cortland. Mary Beth DeCuyke contributed five kills for the Hawks (2-9), who received 10 digs apiece from Dana Martin and Christina Vitale.

Against Union, Martin had seven kills and Quincy Kinzel amassed 10 assists for the second straight match. Martin (16), Vitale (11) and Strom (10) combined for 37 digs.

Hartwick continues invitational play Saturday against Oneonta State and Williams.


Fighting Tiger Invitational

SUNY Cobleskill won their Fighting Tiger Fall Invitational with a program-record team score of 305 strokes to top the seven-team field. Three-time defending champion Sage College placed second by five shots at the par-70 Cobleskill Golf & Country Club.

Ian Wilson placed third out of 42 players with a 3-over-par 73, and Don Cervantes shot a 76. Travis Deuel and Nicholas Roney tied for fifth with rounds of 78.

Cobleskill’s B team shot 329 for fourth place. Travis Wilder’s 78 paced the B team.

The Fighting Tigers will compete in the Gator Invitational at the par-72 Olde Kinderhook Golf Course on Wednesday.


Hartwick-So. Methodist

Hartwick’s non-conference game at Southern Methodist was not completed by press time Friday night.
