Outlaws ride big innings to three straight wins

The Hawkeyes followed with a five-run sixth as Black’s struggles continued. Nolan Ray singled and stole second before Ryan Donavan walked. Emilio Alonso then bunted both runners over to set up Ryan Hanahan for an RBI single that made it 2-0.

O’Reilly singled home another run before Austin March sent a three-run homer out of right field for the final margin. March’s first homer of the season chased Black, who gave up six earned runs on six hits and six walks.

O’Reilly and Ray had two hits apiece for the Hawkeyes (11-8), who are third in the five-team East Division of the PGCBL.

Cooperstown, which was idle Thursday, visits Elmira tonight and hosts Newark at 5 p.m. Saturday at Doubleday Field.

Oneonta 6, Sidney 5

Mark Giallanzo hit a tying RBI single in the sixth inning, then scored the go-ahead run on a double-steal as Oneonta Post 259 rallied for a Legion victory Wednesday at Oneonta High.

Connor Tavarone drew a one-out walk and stole second with Oneonta trailing, 5-4, in the top of the sixth. He tied the score on Giallanzo’s single before David Wright was hit by a pitch to give the Green Wave runners at first and second.

Giallanzo advanced to third when Zach Pidgeon reached on a fielder’s choice that forced out Wright at second. Pidgeon then got in a rundown on a delayed steal, allowing Giallanzo enough time to steal home for the decisive run.

Kragh Delello earned the pitching victory after taking over for starter Noah Sheehan in the fifth. Wright then struck out four in consecutive 1-2-3 innings for his first save of the season.

Giallanzo finished with three hits, three runs and two stolen bases for Oneonta, which received two hits and two RBIs from Ben Payton.
