Outlaws ride big innings to three straight wins


Lucas Butcher doubled twice, scored a run and drove in another for Sidney, which played as the home team because its field was not playable.

Oneonta’s Ben Moxley and Sidney’s Dylan Van Pelt also doubled.

Brooklawn 12, Oneonta 1

Connor Tavarone doubled Thursday, but Oneonta lost its opener via mercy rule in the Frederick Wood Bat Tournament in Maryland.

Zach Pidgeon had the other hit for the Green Wave (12-9), who gave up nine runs to Brooklawn, N.J., in the top of the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Ben Moxley took the loss to fall to 2-3 this season.

Oneonta plays two tournament games today, against Funkstown, Md., at 12:30 and Calvert, Md., at 5:30. The Green Wave, who also play one tournament game Saturday, are part of a 20-team tournament that features four divisions. Each division champion will advance to Sunday’s semifinals, with the championship game to follow the same day.
