Anglers run away with title
Mike Barse and Vic VanSteenburg cruised to the top spot in the Susquehanna Bass Association’s Tri-County Communications, Inc. Tournament on Sunday at Oneida Lake.
Barse and VanSteenburg caught five largemouth bass weighing a total of 18.98 pounds to finish more than five pounds ahead of second-place Lou Falvo and Dave Hubbard. VanSteenburg highlighted the victory with a 21.5-inch, 4.72-pound catch that marked the lunker of the day.
Falvo and Hubbard filled the five-fish limit at 13.95 pounds. Vince Fink and Bruce Hall followed with a mixed limit of smallmouths and largemouths weighing 12.55 pounds.
Anthony Konchar and Steve Wilson rounded out the top four with a 12.06-pound limit. Konchar had the big smallmouth, at 19 inches long and 3.56 pounds.

YMCA to host camp Aug. 12-16
The Oneonta Family YMCA’s Guardstart Youth Camp will run from 8:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Aug. 12-16.
The camp is for youths ages 11-15 and features trips to Zoom Flume Waterpark, Gilbert Lake and other local swimming areas.

Section Four will host its 2013 Fall Sports Rules Interpretation Meetings on the following dates:
Aug. 15: Football at Binghamton High, 6:30 p.m.
Aug. 15: Soccer (boys & girls) at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, 7 p.m.
Aug. 19: Field hockey at Harpursville High, 6 p.m.
Aug. 20: Soccer (boys & girls) at Oneonta State’s Morris Conference Center, 7 p.m.
Aug. 20: Girls swimming at Owego Free Academy, 7 p.m.
Aug. 22: Soccer (boys & girls) at Tompkins Cortland CC in Dryden, 7 p.m.
Aug. 26: Soccer (boys & girls) at Seton Catholic Central, 6 p.m.
Aug. 27: Cross country at Chenango Valley High, 2 p.m.
Section Four coaches at all levels of these sports are encouraged to attend.
Youth football sign-ups Aug. 26
Oneonta Youth Football will hold sign-ups, check-in and equipment distribution Aug. 26 at the 6th Ward Booster Club Field on Scramling Ave., which is across from the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.
Sign-ups and check-ins for players ages 8-10 will run from 5:15-6:15 p.m., followed by the same for players ages 11-12 from 6:15-7:15 p.m.
Players must be age 8 by Dec. 1 and cannot turn 13 before Sept. 1 to participate. Twelve-year-olds in grades 7 or higher are not eligible.

O-State dinner Sept. 14
Oneonta State’s athletics department will host its sixth annual “Dining for Champions” on Sept. 14 in the Hunt Union Ballroom.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction. Dinner follows at 7 p.m.
All proceeds will support student-athlete travel initiatives and facility enhancements. The event has raised more than $90,000 over its first five years.

Hall event to feature Fingers
Rollie Fingers will be the featured guest during a special Voices of the Game program at 10 a.m. Sept. 2 at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
Fingers, a 1992 Hall of Fame inductee who finished his career with 341 saves, will be in Cooperstown that week for the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open Pro-Am.
Tickets for the one-hour roundtable program cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets may be reserved by Hall members from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. starting Monday by calling 607-547-0397. Remaining tickets, if any, will go on sale to the general public Aug. 26.
