Sidney to hold meeting tonight

Sidney will hold a parent-athlete meeting at 6 p.m. today in the high school auditorium.

The meeting will include the passing out of athletic handbooks, watching a DVD on “Parenting your student-athlete,” a speaker who will talk about strategies for success and information on the field project.

Practices will start for the fall season Aug. 19.

Edmeston parents to meet Wednesday

Edmeston Central will hold its Fall Sports Parent Meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria.

Section Four meetings set

Section Four will host its 2013 Fall Sports Rules Interpretation Meetings on the following dates:

Thursday: Football at Binghamton High, 6:30 p.m.

Thursday: Soccer (boys & girls) at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira, 7 p.m.

Aug. 19: Field hockey at Harpursville High, 6 p.m.

Aug. 20: Soccer (boys & girls) at Oneonta State’s Morris Conference Center, 7 p.m.

Aug. 20: Girls swimming at Owego Free Academy, 7 p.m.

Aug. 22: Soccer (boys & girls) at Tompkins Cortland CC in Dryden, 7 p.m.

Aug. 26: Soccer (boys & girls) at Seton Catholic Central, 7 p.m.

Aug. 27: Cross country at Chenango Valley High, 2 p.m.

Section Four coaches at all levels of these sports are encouraged to attend.

Youth fishing derby to be held Aug. 17

The Oneonta City Recreation Department and the Susquehanna Bass Association will host the City of Oneonta’s 56th annual Fishing Derby at 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Hodges Pond in Neahwa Park.

The derby is a free catch-and-release competition open to youths ages 5-15. All participants must provide their own poles, bait/lures and a clean bucket.

Parents/guardians must complete a registration/release form for their children to be eligible to participate in the derby.

Parents may pre-register their children for the derby at the recreation office during regular business hours. Event-day registrations will be accepted from 3-3:45 p.m.
