---- — Hall to host open house

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will host an open house for Otsego County residents from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday.

Hall President Jeff Idelson will preview the museum’s plans for its 75th anniversary season, including the May 23-25 Hall of Fame Classic Weekend; the 75th Anniversary Celebration on June 12; the July 25-28 Hall of Fame Weekend; and the 75th Anniversary Concert on Aug. 2.

Refreshments will be served during the open house, which will include the unveiling of a new photo exhibit on the third floor. Picturing America’s Pastime features more than 50 photographic images highlighting the Hall’s collection of 250,000 original images. The exhibition, which will be on display throughout 2014, also has 16 artifacts connected to the images on display.

Turkey Trot set for Nov. 28

Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care will host its first Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot, a 5-kilometer run/walk, on Nov. 28 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

The event will begin and end at the OBGC on 70 River St. in Oneonta. Registration starts at 8 a.m. The trot starts at 9 a.m.

Entry fee is $20 and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt. To register, visit the website Hospice5k.com.

The event will include a memorial balloon release. Proceeds will help fund Catskill Area Hospice’s “Perfect Gift” program.

Golf league starts soon

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens is accepting teams for its winter golf simulator league.

Two-person teams play captain-and-mate weekly and post their scores against the field to move up the money list. Teams may play any time seven days a week, but tee times are required.

The league starts the first week of December and runs until the last week in March. Teams may make up missed weeks or play matches in advance.

One-time league dues cost $20 per person and go toward the 100-percent cash payout based on the results of the money list. Weekly fees cost $10 per person for non-members or $8 per Colonial Ridge Golf member.

Simulators are also available seven days a week by appointment. The course will remain open, weather-permitting.

The course and the simulators will be closed this Saturday and Sunday, as well as Nov. 27-29.

O-State to hold baseball clinic

Oneonta State will host its Baseball Holiday High School Clinic from 9 a.m.-noon Dec. 15 at the college’s Alumni Field House.

Registration runs from 8:30-9 a.m. and costs $35 per camper. The clinic is open to high school players in the classes of 2014-17.

The clinic will focus on defense, hitting, throwing and pitching drills. Bullpens and batting practice will take place at the end of the clinic.

Volleyball tourney seeks players

The Norwich Family YMCA is seeking teams for its “Thanks4Giving II” Open 6’s and Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament, which starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Entry fee is $100 per six-player team, with $25 for each additional member. Players may register as individuals for $25 and will be placed on teams.

To register, email team name, captain information (name, email, phone) and shirt sizes for players (based on men’s sizes) to volleyballtournamentorg@gmail.com. Deadline to register is this Saturday.

Each team is asked to donate $25 of non-perishable food items. Entry fees and non-perishable food items will benefit the YMCA’s Support Campaign and the Roots & Wings Food Pantry, respectively.

Softball camp to run Sundays

The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will run the Oneonta Fall Pitching Camp on Sundays through Nov. 24.

The fast-pitch softball camp is designed for players ages 8-18 who want to learn how to pitch or develop their skills.

Sessions I and II of the advanced/intermediate pitching camp for ages 13-18 will run from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and from 2:30-3:30 p.m., respectively. Session I will feature drills that reinforce mechanics, speed, accuracy and endurance. Session II will focus on new pitches, honing skills and drills to reinforce pitch and game strategies.

Registration fee is $80 for Session I and $130 for both sessions.

The camp also features a third session for beginners that will run from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Session III will cover mechanics, fundamentals, drills and strategies and costs $80.

Lacrosse session starts Monday

LacrosseOneonta’s winter session at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will run Mondays through Jan. 13, 2014.

Boys and girls in grades 3-7 will play between 6-7 p.m., followed by grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m.

Cost is free, but participants must be members of the OBGC.

Volleyball sign-ups start Nov. 22

The Oneonta Recreation Department will accept registrations from returning men’s and women’s volleyball teams beginning Nov. 22. A team must return at least 75 percent of its roster from 2013 to qualify as a returning team.

Pending available space, registrations will be accepted from new teams beginning Dec. 13. Registration will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 19. The program will accept 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams.

All matches will be played at the Asa C. Allison Municipal building in Oneonta. Men will play Tuesday evenings starting Jan. 7. Women will play Wednesday evenings starting Jan. 9.

Entry fee is $300 per team. The team fee must be paid in full and a preliminary roster must be submitted to register. No cash payments will be accepted.

Youth conditioning classes set

The Oneonta Family YMCA will offer Youth Sports Conditioning at the Center Street School gym from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The program is open to area youths in grades 6 through age 18 and runs through Dec. 13.

Delhi announces pool hours

SUNY Delhi’s pool schedule through Dec. 15 is as follows.

Lap Swim: 7-8 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. (Monday-Friday)

Open Swim: 8-9:30 p.m. (M,W,F); 9-10 p.m. (Tue); 7-9 p.m. (F); 1-5 p.m. (Sat-Sun).

The pool will close for October break at 1 p.m. Oct. 11 and re-open Oct. 16.

There will be no open swim Nov. 23 (college swim meet).

The pool will close for the Thanksgiving break at noon Nov. 25 and re-open Dec. 2.

Hall accepting intern applications

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is accepting applications for next year’s class at the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Leadership Development.

Applications for the Class of 2014 will be accepted through Jan. 31, 2014. The Steele Internship Program will provide students the chance to join the Hall in a 10-week summer internship.

To be considered for the program, students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at a college or university, having completed at least their sophomore year. Fifteen intern positions are available.
