H.S. games wiped out by Storm

The start to the Oneonta High boys basketball season will have to wait a few days.

The Yellowjackets’ season-opener against Seton Catholic Central in OHS’ Anthony C. Drago Tournament scheduled for Tuesday was postponed by a snowstorm. Unatego’s boys also were scheduled to play in the Drago Tournament on Tuesday against Johnson City.

Both games have been moved to Friday. Unatego will play JC at 4:30 p.m. before OHS plays SCC at 6:15 p.m. The championship game will be played at 4:15 p.m. Saturday. The consolation game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The Yellowjackets are coming off of 7-11 season.

The Shalkey Mokay Tournament for boys basketball that was supposed to start Tuesday at Delhi also had to be rescheduled. The tournament will now open Saturday, when Bainbridge-Guilford will play Hunter-Tannesville at 1 p.m. and Delhi will oppose Downsville at 3 p.m.

One other boys game was postponed, Schenevus’ non-league game at Roxbury. No makeup date was announced.

Three Delaware League girls basketball games also were postponed — Davenport at South Kortright, Jefferson at Margaretville and Stamford at Roxbury. Those games have not been rescheduled.

Ernie Davis Classic

Nine area players will represent the East squad for the annual Ernie Davis Classic, a Section Four Football Conference all-star game for seniors.

The game will start at 7 tonight at Union-Endicott’s Ty Cobb Stadium. Admission is $5, except for senior citizens ($3) and children 10 and under (free). As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the game was still scheduled to be played.

Delhi and Unatego will have two players apiece. The Bulldogs are sending linebacker Brian Ingram and center Tyler Cumpston. Unatego will be represented by wide receiver Kellen Komenda and defensive back Corbin Henry.

The other area players are Bainbridge-Guilford guard Shane Curtin, Oneonta High kicker/punter/defensive back Mat Robinson, Sidney center Zach Nages, Unadilla Valley linebacker/tackle Chris Bateman and Walton defensive back Austin Kilmer.
