Gilboa girls top H-T in opener

Brooke Koerner and Sara Coons scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, as the Gilboa girls basketball team topped the host school, 52-49, in the opening round of the Hunter-Tannersville Tournament on Monday.

Eight of Koerner’s points came in the fourth quarter, which started with Gilboa holding a 34-33 lead.

Taylor Firmalino’s game-high 19 points paced H-T, who received nine points from Sarah Murin and eight apiece from Sam Dibbell and Emily Farrell.

Shelby Oliver contributed 12 points for Gilboa, which will play Cairo-Durham in the championship game at 7:45 p.m. today. C-D routed Windham in Monday’s other opener, H-T coach Nate Jones said.

Windham and H-T will play the consolation game at 6:15 p.m. today.
