Hawks take it easy at home

Kyle Bradley and Jared Suderley scored 20 points apiece Sunday as the Hartwick College men’s basketball team rolled to a 94-61 non-conference victory over visiting Wells College.

Bradley shot 7-for-11 from the floor and also had eight rebounds, six assists and two blocks. Suderley finished 10-for-17 from the field and contributed nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Laurens graduate Aaron Laing and Anthony Keane also scored in double figures for the Hawks (2-2), who jumped to a 10-0 lead. Laing hit 6 of 7 shots from the floor for 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. Keane had 11 points, on 4-for-8 shooting, with three rebounds and three assists.

“The win today was a great team effort,” said Hartwick coach Todd McGuinness, whose team has qualified for the last two NCAA Division III tournaments. “We really started getting the ball inside and getting good looks.”

Jordan Bishop and Jonathan Bonds each scored 10 points for the Express (2-2), who trailed, 50-25, at halftime.

Hartwick, which shot a season-best 60 percent from the floor (39 of 65), visits Oneonta State for a non-conference game at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Otterbein 94, Cobleskill 75

Junior forward Will Davis had 14 points and five rebounds for SUNY Cobleskill, which fell in Sunday’s consolation game of the University of Rochester/Holiday Inn Airport Tournament.

Senior guard Tyrone Mitchell scored 11 points for the Fighting Tigers (1-4), who received 10 points and six rebounds from all-tournament selection Jack Jeffres, a junior forward.

Senior center Zach Bakenhaster dominated the interior en route to a game-high 24 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for the Cardinals (2-2), who held a 44-31 lead at halftime.

Cobleskill hosts Oswego State at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The game will follow a 5 p.m. women’s basketball meeting between Cobleskill and SUNY Canton.

Rochester 101, Cobleskill 48

Alexis Nunez scored 10 points Saturday to lead Cobleskill in a first-round loss to the host of the UR/Holiday Inn Airport Tournament.

Glen Robinson scored seven points in three minutes off the bench for the Fighting Tigers, who faced a 20-0 deficit after 4 minutes, 17 seconds.

Kent Coyne scored 16 points in 17 minutes to lead Rochester, which improved to 5-0 Sunday with an 83-68 championship victory over 22nd-ranked Ohio Wesleyan.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Hartwick 71, Drew 37

Juniors Kate Purcell, Tracey Koch and Maria Foglia scored in double figures Sunday as Hartwick (3-1) cruised to a non-conference win at home.

Purcell finished with a game-high 17 points and team-bests of eight rebounds and four steals for the Hawks, whose 12-0 run to open the game helped them avenge a 59-52 loss at Drew that started the 2011-12 season.

Koch contributed 13 points and Foglia had 11 for the Hawks, who took a 34-17 lead into halftime. Koch and Foglia also grabbed six rebounds apiece.

Whitney Mackay’s 11 points paced the Rangers (1-3), who received 10 points and 11 rebounds from Courtney Stephens.

Hartwick visits Oneonta State at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a non-conference game.
