Franklin’s girls won the Anton Remy Tournament on Saturday and earned some revenge in the process.

Tournament MVP Jordan Beers scored 31 points to lead the Purple Devils to a 49-39 win over host Milford.

Last winter, 10th-seeded Milford upset No. 2 Franklin, 52-46, in a Section Four Class D quarterfinal to end the Purple Devils’ 15-2 season.

Beers, a junior, scored 21 of her points in the middle quarters, despite facing a triangle-and-2 defense in which both chasers guarded Beers.

“They held her to six points in the first quarter,” Franklin coach Mike Dutcher said of Beers, who averaged better than 25 points last season. “We made adjustments. They ran a triangle-and-2 and put the two on her. We figured it out.”

All-tournament selection Marisa Cawley contributed 10 points for Franklin (2-0), which also placed Haley Downin on the All-Tournament Team.

Milford’s Addy Lawson scored 19 points. She also made the All-Tournament Team, as did teammate Madeline Zenir.

Franklin visits Schenevus on Dec. 12.

SK 46, G-MU 17

Tournament MVP Kayla Craft and all-tournament pick Tori Rockefeller scored 10 points apiece to lead South Kortright to victory in the championship game of the Pat Grasso Tournament at Laurens.

Leading by a point after one quarter, the two-time defending Section Four Class D champion Rams went on an 18-4 run in the second. Miquela Hanselman had six points and Brianna Laing contributed four in the quarter for SK.

Sam Acuna had nine points off the bench and Hanselman finished with eight.

“I’m liking the little punch we’re getting with Sam filling in as sixth man,” SK coach Josh Burroughs said. “It’s nice to have that player who can fill in at guard or forward and give us energy.”

Mackenzie Talbot had nine points to lead Gilbertsville-Mount Upton.

The Rams (2-0) host Stamford on Wednesday.

Afton 34, Laurens 24

All-tournament selection Payton Cutting scored 13 points to lead the Crimson Knights to a consolation victory in the Pat Grasso Tournament at Laurens. Cutting went 9-for-14 from the free throw line.

Cassidy Barker had seven points to lead Laurens (0-2).

Schoharie 61, Margaretville 26

Sam Hunt’s eight points paced Margaretville in a season-opening road loss Friday.

The Blue Devils host Gilboa on Wednesday.

CV 34, B-G 33, OT

Morgan Bullis scored 12 points to pace Bainbridge-Guilford, which opened its season with a non-league road loss.

Maddie Staiger finished with a game-high 13 points for the Warriors, who got the decisive point on a free throw by Maggie Gross (12 rebounds) with 40 seconds left in the extra period.

The Bobcats will compete in the Sherburne-Earlville Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
