Though Walton graduate Molly Maguire didn’t run cross country in high school, she proved this fall she’s a quick study.

Running for Division I Siena College, Maguire placed 19th out of 116 runners in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 27 at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Maguire, a freshman, completed the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 49.24 seconds. She was the first Siena runner to cross.

In high school, Maguire was a standout soccer player for the Warriors in the fall season. She earned Daily Star Player of the Year honors in soccer following her junior season. Maguire scored 28 goals as a junior and 27 more in her senior season. Maguire is Walton’s all-time leading goal scorer for girls soccer.

But in track, Maguire twice qualified for the state meet as a distance runner. As a freshman she made the state meet in the 3,000 and again as a senior in the 2,000 steeplechase.

Earlier this fall, Maguire finished eighth out of 53 runners in the University at Albany Invitational. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 18:55.
