---- — Walton man wins 5K
Walton resident Scott Gleason won the Greater Binghamton Santa Run, a 5-kilometer road race held Sunday.
Gleason, 28, topped the field of 762 runners in a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 40 seconds. Maine resident Cody Brizzolara, 17, finished 10 seconds behind as the runner-up.
Bainbridge’s Scott Hornung, 30, placed 12th in 17:50.
Walton claimed another top area time as Angel Haraveth, 33, finished 75th overall and 15th among women in 23:00. Walton’s Michele DuMond, 44, crossed 1 second later for 76th place. DuMond’s fastest 5K time was good for first place in the women’s 40-49 age-group.
Scott Poulin, 51, and Jennifer Poulin, 22, also represented Walton in the top 100. Scott Poulin finished in 23:15 for 90th place. Jennifer Poulin finished 98th in 23:35.
Club accepting deer hides
The Bainbridge Sportsmen’s Club and Chenango Federation are accepting donations of deer hides.
Proceeds will be used to send youths to DEC camps.
Deer hides may be dropped off at the club, which is located at 23 Pearl St. in Bainbridge.

Volleyball sign-ups set
The Oneonta Recreation Department is accepting registrations from returning men’s and women’s volleyball teams. A team must return at least 75 percent of its roster from last season to qualify as a returning team.
Pending available space, registrations will be accepted from new teams beginning Friday. Registration will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 19. The program will accept 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams.
All matches will be played at the Asa C. Allison Municipal building in Oneonta. Men will play Tuesday evenings starting Jan. 7. Women will play Wednesday evenings starting Jan. 9.
Entry fee is $300 per team. The team fee must be paid in full and a preliminary roster must be submitted to register. No cash payments will be accepted.

Red Sox legends to visit Hall
Boston Red Sox radio voice Joe Castiglione and former Red Sox manager Joe Morgan will be featured in a Voices of the Game event at 11 a.m. Saturday at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
The event will take place in the Hall’s Bullpen Theater. Seating is available on a first-come basis. Tickets are included with regular admission to the Hall.
Castiglione will begin his 32nd season on Red Sox radio in 2014, tying him with the late Ned Martin for the longest tenure in team history.
Morgan managed the Red Sox from 1988-91, leading Boston to American League East titles in 1988 and 1990 and finishing in the top four in AL Manager of the Year voting three times.

O-State to hold clinics Sunday
Oneonta State will host its Baseball Holiday High School Clinic from 9 a.m.-noon Sunday at the college’s Alumni Field House.
Registration runs from 8:30-9 a.m. and costs $35 per camper. The clinic is open to high school players in the classes of 2014-17.
The clinic will focus on defense, hitting, throwing and pitching drills. Bullpens and batting practice will take place at the end of the clinic.

Also Sunday, Oneonta State will hold a softball clinic from 1-4 p.m. at Alumni Field House.
Registration runs from noon-1 p.m. and costs $30 per player.
The clinic will focus on hitting, defense, pitching and catching and will be open to all students in the 2014-17 graduating classes.

Sidney starts swim club
The Sidney Area Swim Club will hold an open tryout from 5-6 p.m. Dec. 18 at Sidney Central.
The new club, which is approved by USA Swimming, is accepting swimmers of all skill levels in grades 3-12. Swimmers in the Sidney district and surrounding areas may participate.
Practices run weekdays at Sidney Central. The club also will compete around the state.
Cost is $25 per month per swimmer. Scholarships are available.

Frost Bite 5K set for Dec. 31
The annual Oneonta Family YMCA Frost Bite 5K Fun Run will start at 1 p.m. Dec. 31.
Race day registration and number pick up runs from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the YMCA. The race will begin on Market Street in Oneonta.
Pre-registration for guaranteed T-shirts ends Dec. 13.
