Ian and Alex Van Cott, twin brothers from Unadilla, helped Tulane’s Division I men’s tennis team get off to a 2-0 start Sunday at New Orleans.
Alex and Ian, both sophomores, earned straight-set victories at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, during a 7-0 win over Jackson State.
Tulane, which is ranked 68th nationally, then defeated Alcorn State, 7-0.
Alex defeated Nicschay Rawal, 6-3, 2-6, 10-5, at fifth singles. Ian downed Max Tkachenko, 6-1, 6-2 at sixth singles.
Ian also started a pair of third doubles matches Sunday, but neither one finished.
Freshman guard Anderson (Unadilla Valley) has started all 13 games for the Morrisville State women’s basketball team.
Anderson is averaging 11.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and a team-best 2.5 assists.
Morrisville is 4-9.
Elmira College guard Dibble (Jefferson) is averaging 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds in his junior season.
Dibble has appeared in 12 games.
Elmira is 5-8.
Sage College’s Martin (Jefferson) scored her season high of 17 points to lead the Gators to an 87-80 victory over Old Westbury on Saturday.
Martin, a senior, made four three-pointers.
For the season, she’s averaging 5.6 points and 3.3 rebounds for the Gators (8-4), who have won five straight since an 84-33 loss to Hartwick on Dec. 5.
Over four seasons, Martin has hit 92 three-pointers, which ranks fifth in school history. Her 466 rebounds are also fifth in school history.
Sidney graduate Umbra is averaging better than 10 points a game since joining the Broome Community College men’s basketball team in January.
Umbra, a former Daily Star’s Player of the Year, had 14 points, three rebounds and five assists in Broome’s 75-60 win over Onondaga on Jan. 14.
The Hornets are 9-9.
Vanderlaan-Meyering (Oneonta High) has played in eight games for the Moravian College basketball team.
Vanderlaan-Meyering, a freshman, is averaging 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds. She’s also blocked 15 shots.
Moravian is 13-3.
Oneonta High graduate Erin Wolstenholme is averaging 8.1 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Cortland State women’s basketball team.
Wolstenholme, a junior, is tied for the team lead with 22 three-pointers. She also has 15 steals and 15 assists for the Red Dragons, who are 10-5.
Wolstenholme will return to Oneonta tonight when Cortland comes to town for a SUNY Athletic Conference game against O-State that starts at 6 p.m.ON CAMPUS
