O-State women shut down Cortland

---- — Alyshia Crawford scored a game-high 16 points and Oneonta State held visiting Cortland State to 19 percent shooting from the field in a 51-32 SUNY Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory Tuesday.

Grace Schilling and Sarah Longto had 10 points apiece for O-State, which completed a regular-season sweep of its SUNYAC rival.

O-State (12-3, 6-2) led, 26-16, at halftime. To start the second half, O-State went on an 11-3 run to take a 37-19 lead.

Crawford converted a three-point play with 14:47 left to make it 33-19. Longto then made a layup and Bryn Loomis capped the run on a layup with 11:20 left.

When Schilling hit a layup with 1:54 remaining, O-State had a 51-27 lead.

Caysea Cohen scored nine points to lead Cortland (10-6, 6-3). Oneonta High graduate Erin Wolstenholme scored three points and grabbed four rebounds for Cortland. Wolstenholme shot 1-for-9 from the field.

O-State will host Brockport at 6 p.m. Friday.

MEN’S BASKETBALLCortland 72, Oneonta 67

Zach Mager scored a team-high 20 points, but Oneonta State allowed visiting Cortland to shoot 63 percent from the floor in a SUNYAC loss.

Cortland (10-6, 5-4) made 30 of its 48 shots from the floor, including 28-for-37 inside the three-point arc.

Lamard Herron scored a game-high 22 points, shooting 9-for-14 from the floor for Cortland. Teammate Kevin McMahon contributed 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting.

O-State (8-7, 5-3) took its lone lead of the second half on a layup by Jackson Zuvic with 9:20 left. When Dan Lee hit a pair of free throws for O-State with 1:52 to play, the score was tied at 65.

But McMahon hit a three-pointer to give Cortland a 68-65 lead with 1:36 to go.

A layup by Lee made it 68-67 with 30 seconds left, but Herron answered with a pair of free throws 14 seconds later to put Cortland up three.

Lee then missed a layup with seven seconds and Nick Segarra missed a potential tying three-pointer with four seconds left.

Cortland rebounded and McMahon hit a pair of free throws with two seconds left to seal it.

Mikey McElroy had 15 points for O-State, which received respective 11- and 10-point nights from Jack Dignan and Zuvic.

Lee had five points and seven assists for O-State, which will host Brockport at 8 p.m. Friday.

HONORSMen’s Basketball

Hartwick senior Jared Suderley was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, one day after the Empire 8 Conference selected him as its Player of the Week.

Suderley led the Hawks to a 3-0 week, shooting 53 percent from the field in wins over Stevens, Alfred and Houghton.

Against Houghton, Suderley scored his season high of 36 points and also grabbed 17 rebounds.
