Bring a girl to O-State game

The Oneonta State women’s basketball team will host its “Bring a girl to the game” at 6 p.m. Feb. 7, when the Red Dragons host Fredonia in SUNY Athletic Conference play.

Girls will have an opportunity to meet the team after the game.

All Red Dragon girls basketball campers who respond by Tuesday will receive a coupon toward the camp. For more information, call O-State coach Daphne Thompson at 607-436-2360 or email her at Daphne.Thompson@Oneonta.edu.

Basketball tourney starts Feb. 28

The inaugural Roland A. Beers Memorial Basketball Tournament will run Feb. 28-March 1 at Walton Central.

The tournament will feature three six-team divisions, for players in grades 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10.

Games will be two 20-minute halves of running time. Regular time will be kept for the final minute of close games. Overtime periods, if needed, will last for two minutes.

Cost is $150 per team. Entry deadline is Friday.

The tournament raises money for the Roland A. Beers Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will benefit a Walton senior looking to pursue secondary education in criminal justice. Last year, the fund awarded three scholarships totaling $2,400.

Soccer refs to meet March 2

The Oneonta/USSF Soccer Referee Association will hold an interest meeting for those who would like to referee youth travel soccer from 2-3:30 p.m. March 2 in Oneonta.

State basketball tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for the 37th New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball State Championships, which run March 14-16 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Tickets cost $10 per session or $50 for all sessions. Advanced tickets cost $8 apiece for the first 1,000 sold before March 1. Fans also may purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $50 before March 1, but this package is limited to 250.
