O-State wrestlers rally to beat King's

STAFF REPORT

Wins by Chad Obzud and Stephen Provenzano at 197 and 280 pounds, respectively, rallied Oneonta State’s wrestlers to a 23-18 non-conference victory at King’s College on Tuesday.

Trailing, 18-16, Obzud scored a 9-1 decision over Cemah Tudae-Torboh to give the Red Dragons a 20-18 lead heading into the final match.

Provenzano sealed the victory with a 9-2 win over Elijah Gresham.

Daniel Graff had the lone pin of the match for O-State. He needed 5 minutes, 8 seconds to stop Angelo Lussi at 174 pounds.

Ben Mikac (141) and Christian Mazzocchi (149) also had wins for the Red Dragons (8-7), who will host Williams College on Feb. 8.

HONORSHawks of the Week

Hartwick College selected senior diver Lindsay Bowker and senior swimmer Luke Grunewald as its Hawks of the Week.

Bowker finished third in 1- and 3-meter diving during Sunday’s Dick Comanzo Invitational at Ithaca College. In the process, she set Hartwick records and earned NCAA regional qualifying scores in both events. She scored 477.95 in 1 meter and 455.65 in 3 meter.

Bowker also won both events in the Hawks’ dual meet victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday.

Grunewald set a Moyer Pool record in the 1,650-yard freestyle, touching in 16 minutes, 31.33 seconds in Hartwick’s win over St. Lawrence on Saturday. He broke his old recordby about 8.5 seconds. Grunewald also won the 500 (4:47.68).

Cobleskill athlete of week

Junior Alexis Nunez was named SUNY Cobleskill’s athlete of the week.

Nunez, a junior point guard on the men’s basketball team, helped the Fighting Tigers go 2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

In Cobleskill’s 71-62 victory over Keuka on Wednesday, Nunez scored his college high of 31 points. For the week, he averaged 16.3 points, 6.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds.

For the season, Nunez is averaging 11.4 points, 5.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds.

The Fighting Tigers (3-11, 2-6) will travel to play Lancaster Bible College at 5 p.m. Friday.
