---- — Area coaches honored

The Basketball Coaches Association of New York honored area basketball coaches Josh Burroughs of South Kortright and Ray Preston of Davenport during its 31st annual clinic and conference last weekend at Cortland State.

Burroughs received the Girls High School Class D Coach of the Year award from the BCANY, which gave Preston a Milestone Victory Award for his 600 career victories.

Preston’s assistant, Doug Calhoun, won the Assistant Coach Award as well.

WCDO offers live streaming

WCDO Broadcasting has added streaming capabilities that will allow fans of local high school teams to tune in to games that are broadcast throughout football and basketball seasons on Sidney radio station, FM 100.9 and AM 1490 WCDO.

The broadcasts are free and will be broadcast in real time on computers and Android smartphones via the new website at WCDOSports.com.

Past broadcasts remain available at WCDO’s main website, WCDORadio.com, in the WCDO Sports on Demand section. This free service will continue along side the live, real-time streaming at WCDOSports.com.

Hall to mark Fall Classic

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will host its annual World Series Gala on Oct. 27.

The event will feature a live broadcast of Game 3 of the 108th World Series in the Grandstand Theater, along with refreshments, trivia, raffles and prizes.

Tickets are required and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Members may reserve tickets now. Remaining tickets, if any, will be available to non-members Monday by calling the Hall’s Membership Department at 607-547-0397.

Also on Oct. 27, the Hall will celebrate “Price Chopper Day.” Anyone with a Price Chopper AdvantEdge membership card will receive free admission to the museum, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

OBGC to host winter lacrosse

The winter session of Lacrosse Oneonta will run Mondays from Nov. 12-Jan. 21, 2013 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

Boys and girls in grades 3-7 will play from 6-7 p.m., followed by youths in grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m.

There is no fee to participate, but players must be OBGC members. A small amount of equipment is available for beginners.

Schenevus sets hoops clinic

Hoop Mountain NY will host its Fall Basketball Clinic from 1:30-5 p.m. Sunday at Schenevus High.

Former WNBA and Boston College player Amber Jacobs will run the clinic, which is for boys and girls ages 8-18.

Delhi Pee Wees to play Sunday

The Delhi Pee Wee Football Association will host two games at the Delhi American Legion Field near the pavilion Sunday.

The Delhi Jets will play Oneonta at 1 p.m., followed by the Delaware National Bank Bulldogs against Cooperstown at 3 p.m.

Golf on Sunday in Laurens

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host a captain-and-crew golf tournament to benefit Andrew Coyle at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members and includes greens fees, golf cart, donation and prize money.

Proceeds will benefit Coyle, who was recently diagnosed with sarcoma, a soft-tissue cancer.

Cross country runs continue

The Hurley’s Heroes Track Club will host the second of its three-meet series of cross country runs at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wilber Park in Oneonta.

The series ends at 4 p.m. Oct. 30. Each run starts at the Spruce Street entrance on the lower level of Wilber Park and will follow 2.5 miles of park paths.

There is no cost to participate and runners of all ages are welcome.

Basketball clinic Oct. 28 at OBGC

The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club will host Tim McGraw’s Nothin’ but Net Shooting Clinic from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 28.

The clinic is designed for boys and girls in grades 3-12 and costs $25 per player.

Coaching course starts Nov. 6

Cherry Valley-Springfield will host the first of three coaching courses required by New York State beginning Nov. 6.

The 15-session course, Principles, Philosophy and Organization of Athletics in Education, will be led by Jordan Jaquay and costs $110.

The first four sessions will run from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 6, 13, 20 and 27 at CV-S. Dates for the remaining sessions will be announced after the first week.

Elks Hoop Shoot set for Nov. 10

The Oneonta Elks Lodge will hold its annual Elks Hoop Shoot at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club at 10 a.m. Nov. 10.

This free-throw competition is open to boys and girls ages 8-13 who will be those ages on April 1, 2013. Birth certificates are required on the day of competition.

Winners will advance to district competition, which will be followed by regional, state and national rounds. The National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., will host the national finals.

Basketball tourney Nov. 12

The Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host a 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament Nov. 12.

Cost is $3 for members and $6 for non-members. Each team must have two boys and two girls. Teams will be grouped by grades (5-6; 7-8; 9-12).
