Oneonta High football is on a roll.
Skylar Thompson rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries Friday night to lead the host Yellowjackets to a 38-26 victory over Susquehanna Valley in a Section Four Football Conference non-division game at Lloyd F. Baker Field.
Thompson scored on runs of 78 and 26 yards for OHS (2-7), which closed its season with two straight victories. The Yellowjackets won their first game last Friday night, 15-14, over visiting Windsor.
Senior quarterback Brendan Lord went 8-for-11 for 209 yards, including an 86-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Vega with 4 minutes, 54 seconds left in the second quarter. Lord, who was intercepted once, also had a 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Mat Robinson followed with his fifth extra point to give OHS a 38-20 lead. He opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Vega finished with 136 receiving yards on three catches for Oneonta, which also got a 1-yard TD run from Sam Sherrill in the third quarter.
Among the 11 Yellowjackets set to graduate this June are Lord, running back Scott Conrade, wide receivers Vega and Joe Spataro, and lineman Taharen Williams.
“You don’t know what you’ve lost until the next season,” OHS coach Adam Hoover said. “We’re going to have to see what the new guys can do next season.”
Section Four semis
Unatego will play its Section Four Class D semifinal against Tioga at 11 a.m. Saturday at Binghamton Alumni Stadium.
The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. at Union-Endicott’s Ty Cobb Stadium but was moved because of impending poor weather.
Section Four Football Conference Coordinator David Garbarino said via email that U-E will place a tarp on its field to protect it from the predicted storm this weekend.
The other Class D semifinal between Harpursville and Groton also moved to Binghamton Alumni Stadium as a result. Those teams will play at 8 p.m. Saturday, following a Class C semifinal scheduled for 5 p.m. between Sidney and Waverly.
