Jackets pound out 18 hits in STAC win

Oneonta High amassed 18 hits and scored in every inning of its 15-6 Southern Tier Athletic Conference baseball victory at Susquehanna Valley on Friday.

“We hit the ball certainly the best we’ve hit it all year,” OHS coach Joe Hughes said. “We hit hard line drives. We had some productive at-bats. Today, we made significant improvement at the plate. We had more quality at-bats than we’ve all year long. It was good to see.”

Zach King led the way with four hits. Chris Pindar contributed three hits and three RBIs, and Jonathan Vega, Collin Neer and Conor Tavarone had two hits apiece for the Yellowjackets, who bounced back from a 12-5 loss to Chenango Valley on Wednesday by scoring a combined 27 runs against Windsor and SV the past two days.

“We had quality at-bats up and down the lineup,” Hughes said.

Kragh Delello hit a two-run double and scored on an RBI double by Neer as Oneonta extended its to lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning.

Kevin Smith improved to 2-0. He struck out four, walked one, scattered eight hits and allowed three earned runs in a complete game.

The Yellowjackets (7-3, 5-3) will travel to Johnson City on Monday.

Damian Zimmer had three doubles and two RBIs, and Bill Kozak and Nate McDonald had two hits apiece to lead visiting to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

Winning pitcher Zak Green struck out six over five innings.

Lucas Butcher went 3-for-4 for Bainbridge-Guilford (8-2, 6-2), which will host Unadilla Valley on Monday.

Unatego 18, Hancock 1

Alex Walley hit a grand slam to highlight a 14-run fourth inning for Unatego, which cruised to a Midstate Athletic Conference win at home.

Quinn Barnhart went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run. He also struck out six over six innings to earn the pitching victory.

Jon Wingate had three doubles, two RBIs and two runs for the Spartans, who received two hits and two RBIs from Tyler Butler.

Unatego (11-3, 8-0) hosts Afton on Monday.

Jeff Lawton went 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs to lead visting Oxford to a MAC victory. Teammate Andrew Golden contributed two hits and three runs.

Josh Austin had two hits, two runs and an RBI for Afton (3-9, 2-6), which visits Unatego on Monday.

With two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Austin Taylor drew a bases-loaded walk off of Luke Day as host Unadilla Valley won in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

The Storm loaded the bases in the seventh on a walk by Brandon Kuhn, an error and a single by Mason Alford.

Kuhn finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Greene tied the score at 9 in the top of the seventh by scoring runs. Day had a two-run single in the inning.

Unadilla Valley (5-6, 4-4) will play at Bainbridge-Guilford on Monday.

John Arnold finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs to pace host Harpursville to a win in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

Abel Clark finished with two hits, and Joe Sinistore and Steve Klein both doubled for Walton.

Harpursville (6-5) will play at Hancock on Monday.

Cooperstown 12, M-E 4

Freshman Ray Cabrera earned his first varsity pitching victory, working four innings in relief of starter Park Summers.

“Ray did a nice job tonight in relief. We were able to get four solid innings out of him,” Cooperstown coach Frank Miosek said. “Summers had a little stiffness in his pitching arm. We just want to be a little cautious.”

Nico Knull went 3-for-3 with a triple for Cooperstown (4-1, 4-1), which received two hits from James Johnson.

Collin Pearsall went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Morrisville-Eaton.

Cooperstown hosts Sauquoit Valley at home Monday.

Zach Meyer’s three-hit day included two doubles as visiting Windham won in the Delaware League.

“They were a very solid team,” Margaretville coach John Bernhardt said of Windham. “They presented themselves on the field like they had played a lot of baseball. Several of their position players had strong arms.”

Brandon Cohane contributed two hits for the Warriors, who received a combined five-hitter from winning pitcher Michael Lennon, Meyer and Brandon VanValin.

Kyle Short had two hits for the Blue Devils (4-4, 1-4), who will travel to South Kortright on Monday.

Clayton Hawes hit a two-run homer during a 14-run first inning and Clayton Lyon homered in the fourth as Edmeston won on the road in the Tri-Valley League.

Lucas Miller went 3-for-4 with three runs for the Panthers.

Worcester (4-5, 4-4) will host Richfield Springs on Tuesday.

Joe Terrano had an RBI single during Franklin’s four-run eighth inning that carried the visiting Purple Devils to a Tri-Valley League win.

Terrano finished with two of Franklin’s 10 hits.

Milford 7, Laurens 6

Host Milford rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win in the Tri-Valley League.

After Laurens benefited from two errors in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead, Paul Van Warner’s RBI triple made it a one run game. Van Warner then scored on a passed ball to tie the score at 6. Wyatt Waters followed with the second of his two doubles and went to third on a groundout. Waters scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Milford (6-1) also scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the score at 4. Blake Elliott hit a two-run triple in the inning.

Peyton Griffiths had four hits, and Waters and Stephen Banks each had two hits for Milford, which will host Cherry Valley-Springfield on Tuesday.

Mitchell Corrigan and Mason Weir had two hits apiece for Laurens, which received seven strikeouts and no walks from losing pitcher Mitchel Barra.

Greg Mattice’s two-run homer in the first inning highlighted his three-hit day as visiting Stamford won in the Delaware League.

Sean Vroman, Dustin King, Erik Ehrhart and Matt Anderson had two hits apiece for the Indians, who scored in all but the third inning.

Patrick Kuzma doubled and tripled, and Cole Fancher had two hits for Gilboa (3-3, 3-1), which will travel to Downsville on Monday.
