Cring's HR keeps Coop. unbeaten

Winning pitcher Nicole Cring struck out 11 and walked one in a three-hitter and hit a three-run homer to lift unbeaten Cooperstown to an 8-3 Center State Conference softball victory at Sauquoit Valley on Monday.

After Sauquoit Valley tied the score at 3 with three runs in the top of the sixth inning, Cooperstown answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Cring’s three-run homer highlighted the inning.

Alexis Duda finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Maggie Hall scored three runs for Cooperstown (9-0, 6-0), which will play at Mount Markham on Wednesday.

Morris 7, CV-S 5

Catcher Kelsea Webster’s three-run homer in the fourth inning helped visiting Morris to a win in the Tri-Valley League.

Teammates Kaylyn Oliver and Tessa Hitchcock scored two runs apiece for the Mustangs. Both were on base when Webster homered in the fourth to give Morris a 6-1 lead.

Cherry Valley-Springfield’s Maddie Archer doubled twice and finished with three RBIs. She hit a two-run double during the Patriots’ four-run fifth inning that ended with CV-S trailing, 7-5.

Emma Gohdy contributed a double and an RBI for the Patriots (3-8, 1-7), who will play at Milford on Wednesday.

Melissa Sperry went 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead host Davenport to a win in the Delaware League.

Winning pitcher Jenna Lutz struck out nine in a five-hitter and finished with two RBIs.

Teammate Emily Whipple went 2-for-4, including a double, triple and two RBIs for the Wildcats, who also received two triples from Bailee Hymers.

Heather Murin paced Hunter-Tannersville with two hits.

Davenport (4-3, 4-2) will play a non-league game at Unatego on Thursday.

Pinch-runner Hayley Adams scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eight inning to lift host Sidney to a Midstate Athletic Conference win.

The Warriors (5-4, 5-3) scored twice in the bottom of the eighth. After a single by Hannah Wood, Adams came into run. Adams then reached third on a bunt single by Kelsey Decker before scoring the winning run.

Wood finished 3-for-5 and Mekayla Wakeman went 2-for-4 for Sidney, which will travel to Harpursville on Wednesday.
