The Oneonta Tennis Club will hold one-day holiday camps from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Players may participate in one or both camps, which will be run by head instructor Riley Lorenz.

Cost is $70 per day and lunch is included.

Frost Bite 5K

The Oneonta Family YMCA will host the 15th annual Frost Bite 5K at

1 p.m. Dec. 31.

Race day registration and number pick-ups will run from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the YMCA.

Cost to register is $22 (10-and-under $10).

Afton to

fight cancer

Afton Central School will host a Coaches vs. Cancer basketball event to benefit the American Cancer Society on Jan. 8.

The Crimson Knights will host a quadruple-header against Sidney beginning with junior varsity boys and girls games at 4:30 p.m. The varsity girls will meet at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.

Fans will receive cancer awareness stickers and pin-up cards for the Wall of Hope will be available for a $1 donation. The event also will feature 50/50 raffles and a half-court shooting contest.

Volleyball leagues start soon

The Oneonta Recreation Department is accepting registrations from returning teams for its men’s and women’s volleyball leagues. A team must return at least 75 percent of its roster from 2012 to qualify as a returning team.

All games are played at the Asa C. Allison Municipal building on the corner of Fairview and Academy streets in Oneonta. Men will play Tuesdays beginning Jan. 8, and women will play Wednesdays starting Jan. 9. The regular season will consist of 10 games and be followed by a postseason tournament.

Registration packets, which can be e-mailed upon request, are available at the Recreation Department in Neahwa Park. Teams must pay the $300 entry fee in full and complete a preliminary roster to register. Payments must be made via check or money order payable to the City of Oneonta. Cash payments will not be accepted.

Hunting courses

in January

West End Archery will host a bowhunter education course from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Jan. 8 and 9.

Class size is limited to 20 students. To register, call 607-432-4947 evenings.

The Davenport Fire Department will host a New York State Hunter Education Course from 5:30-9 p.m. Jan. 14, 16 and 17.

Class size is limited to 25 students. Participants must be age 11 or older. To register, call Losie’s Gun Shop at 607-432-6452.

O-State to host baseball clinics

Oneonta State will host two high school baseball clinics at Alumni Field House this winter.

The Red Dragons will hold a pitchers/catchers clinic Jan. 27 and a hitting/defense clinic Feb. 3. Registration for both runs from 11:15 a.m.-noon, followed by the clinic from noon-3 p.m.

Cost is $35 per camper for one clinic or $60 per camper for both. The clinics are designed for high school players who will graduate during the 2013-2016 time period.

Cooperstown seeking nominations

Cooperstown Central is accepting nominations for its Athletics Hall of Fame, which will induct its Class of 2013 in the fall.

Nominations are due by Feb. 18.

Wrestling tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for the 51st annual New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Tournament, which will run Feb. 22-23 at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Session 1 starts at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 22 with the Parade of Champions, followed by Division I and II preliminaries from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., quarterfinals from 2-4 p.m. and wrestlebacks from 4-8 p.m.

Session 2 features state semifinals and wrestlebacks from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Feb. 23, followed by wrestlebacks and consolation semifinals from 12:30-2 p.m. and consolation finals from 2-3:30 p.m.

Session 3 highlights Division I and II state championship matches and begins at 6 p.m. Feb. 23.

One-session tickets cost $12 apiece. Three-session ticket packages cost $38 for premium seating and $33 without. All seating is general admission, except for premium seating for the finals. Premium seating will not be sold separately during the finals.

The Times Union Center will host the state wrestling championships through 2016.

OBGC hosting winter lacrosse

The winter session of Lacrosse Oneonta runs Mondays through Jan. 21, 2013 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

Boys and girls in grades 3-7 will play from 6-7 p.m., followed by youths in grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m.

There is no fee to participate, but players must be OBGC members. A small amount of equipment is available for beginners.

Golf continues through March

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens is accepting sign-ups for its winter simulator golf league.

Two-person teams compete weekly in a captain-and-mate format. Play runs through the week of March 25-29. Playing times are flexible as teams may on weekdays of their choice from week to week.

Weekly fees are $10 per person. A one-time fee of $20 per person is also required to pay for prize money (110-percent cash payout).

WCDO offers live streaming

WCDO Broadcasting has added streaming capabilities that will allow fans of local high school teams to tune in to games that are broadcast throughout football and basketball seasons on Sidney radio station, FM 100.9 and AM 1490 WCDO.

The broadcasts are free and will be broadcast in real time on computers and Android smartphones via the new website at WCDOSports.com.

Past broadcasts remain available at WCDO’s main website, WCDORadio.com, in the WCDO Sports on Demand section. This free service will continue along side the live, real-time streaming at WCDOSports.com.
