Hartwick basketball sweeps Alfred

Tyrone Mitchell’s 11 points and 11 rebounds marked his first college double-double for the Fighting Tigers, who received 13 points from Mike Marcelin.

The Nittany Lions moved to 5-8 overall and 4-1 in the NEAC.

Cobleskill hosts Morrisville State at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Hartwick 68, Alfred 42

Freshman forward Brittney Dumas scored 22 points Saturday, leading the host Hawks to their fourth straight victory in 2013 as they defeated Alfred University in the Empire 8.

Dumas shot 10-for-12 from the floor en route to an 18-for-22 performance in her last two games. Kate Purcell contributed 11 points and tied Dumas for a game-high rebounding honors with six. Purcell also had six assists and three steals.

Rachael Stedman led the Saxons with eight points.

The Hawks (11-3, 4-0), who and are tied atop the E8 standings with Ithaca, host Houghton on Friday.

Hartwick 65, Fisher 52

Brittney Dumas and Maria Foglia scored 18 points and went a combined 14-for-20 from the floor in leading host Hartwick to an Empire 8 Conference victory.

Dumas went 8-for-10 from the floor.

Kate Purcell contributed 14 points and five assists for the Hawks (10-3, 3-0), who led, 34-25, at halftime.

Camaryn Buckner had 19 points to lead the Cardinals (5-9, 2-3).

New Paltz 50, O-State 36

Kahsyrah Bryant scored 20 points to lead New Paltz, who also got 13 points from Shannan Walker for a SUNYAC road win Saturday.

The Hawks (12-0) outscored Oneonta, 36-18, in the second half.

Walker’s three-pointer at 17:04 of the second half put New Paltz ahead for good, at 21-18. The basket was part of an 11-0 run to open the second half for the Hawks, who led by 22 points before Oneonta (4-9, 1-5) scored the last eight points in a row.

Grace Schilling and Kelly Mulligan scored eight points apiece for the Red Dragons, who visit Potsdam on Friday.

PS Berks 70, Cobleskill 46

Heidi Anderson had 16 points and five rebounds for host Cobleskill, which dropped a NEAC game Sunday.
