Unatego crowns four champions at Wickham Classic

Derek Beers had a game-high 15 points for Franklin.

The event was part of an eight-game Coaches vs. Cancer day at Laurens, which raised more than $1,700 for the American Cancer Society, Carr said.

Mitchell Barra, Ryan Holmes and Jared Conklin scored nine points each for Laurens (6-5, 4-3), which hosts Schenevus on Friday.

Franklin 44, G-MU 36

All 16 of Derek Beers’ points came as Franklin built a 15-point halftime lead and the host Purple Devils hung on for a Tri-Valley League victory Friday.

Beers hit four three-pointers before halftime.

Gilbertsville-Mount Upton went to a box-and-one on Beers in the second half.

Tim French scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half for the Raiders, who narrowed their deficit to three points with about 3 ½ minutes left in the fourth quarter.

But Alex Brownell and Matt D’Angelo scored off inbounds plays to help Franklin restore its lead. Brownell finished with 15 points.

Margaretville 48, Stamford 42

With Margaretville holding a one-point lead and about 1:30 left, Kyle Short was fouled shooting a three-pointer and made all three free throws to help the visiting Blue Devils to a Delaware League victory Friday.

Short scored nine points in the fourth quarter, including 6-for-7 from the line, as Margaretville outscored the Indians, 18-13.

“We didn’t take care of the ball,” Stamford coach Greg O’Connell said. “All year I’ve been pleased with my team being poised and we were not poised in the last three minutes tonight.”

Short finished with 12 points, one more than teammate Ryan Sanford. Cooper Reither had 10 points for the Margaretville, with six coming in the final quarter.

Greg Mattice had 13 points for Stamford (8-3, 6-2), which will host Windham on Tuesday.

Davenport 53, Downsville 18

Eight of Michael Libby’s 14 points came during a 16-4 first-quarter run that helped host Davenport to a Delaware League victory Friday.
