Morris boys top Milford in 2 OTs

STAFF REPORT

Levi Decker scored nine of his game-high 27 points in overtime as Morris handed Milford its first league loss, 68-61, in double overtime Friday in a Tri-Valley League boys basketball game.

“Morris’ senior composure, especially at the foul line, was commendable,” Milford coach Frank Spurchise said. “They hit 10 of 13 free throws in the two overtimes, including Decker going 7-for-8. That was a big part of them winning.”

Peyton Griffiths was fouled shooting a three-pointer with 1.8 seconds left in regulation. He went 2-for-3 from the line to tie the score at 50. Griffiths fouled out in the first minute of the first overtime.

“Peyton fouling out hurt us for sure,” Spurchise said.

Milford’s Will Ward hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of the first overtime to tie it at 57.

“I’m just extremely proud of the effort my team had tonight,” Spurchise said. “It was a great game.”

Ward led Milford with 18 points, including four three-pointers. He also had six assists and six rebounds. Griffiths scored 11 points.

Mike Deluca scored 17 points and Skylar Maricle contributed 10 points for Morris.
