Keegan Wheelock-Tanner made his second basket count in a big way Friday night.
Wheelock-Tanner’s layup fell through at the buzzer as Richfield Springs escaped with a 55-54 Tri-Valley League boys basketball victory at Cherry Valley-Springfield.
“Keegan got the ball on the wing, drove to the hoop and made a left-side, backhanded layup,” said CV-S coach Terry Brant, whose team rallied from a 27-16 halftime deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter. “It rolled around the rim and went in at the buzzer. The buzzer was going off as the ball went in.”
The shot capped a five-point night for Wheelock-Tanner, who also went 1-for-2 at the foul line. Joseph Kelly scored a game-high 21 points and Steven Holland had 11 for the Indians.
Kyle Jaquay finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Patriots (8-6, 5-5), who got 10 points from Wyatt Crowley, 11 rebounds from Ethan Drugatz and three threes from Jake Ostrander.
