Oneonta High seniors Connor Brown and Stijn van Pel earned all-state boys soccer honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Yellowjackets coach Alex Brannan announced Friday.
Midfielder Brown is one of 12 second-team small school all-state selections and van Pel is one of 12 fourth-teamers. They finished 6-7, respectively, among area scoring leaders this past fall, when the Southern Tier Athletic Conference champion Yellowjackets completed a 13-3 season with a 5-2 loss to Susquehanna Valley in the Section Four Class B championship game. Brown had 49 points on 18 goals and 13 assists, and van Pel finished with 47 points on 18 goals and 11 assists.
The two were honored by the Southern Tier Athletic Conference in December as Central-East Division All-Conference selections. Fellow All-STAC selection Michael Rood, who scored three times in the sectional final for SV, made the 12-player First Team, along with Lansing’s Cobi Byrne.
Other Section Four all-staters are third-teamers Jeff Contri of Marathon and Spencer Warkentin of Lansing, and fifth-teamer Tyler Hoellerer of Marathon.
Only players whose coaches are NSCAA members are eligible to earn all-state honors.
