Lansing 59, Oneonta 52
Senior forwards Alec Picinich and Mitchel Couch scored 15 points apiece Friday, but Oneonta High’s boys ended the season with a non-league loss.
“It was a pretty good game and a nice way for the seniors finish out,” said OHS coach Jerry Mackey, whose team finished the season at 7-11. “Seniors Picinich and Couch had big games and everyone played. Hopefully, it’s a building block for next season.”
Skylar Thompson and Mike Wolstenholme finished with seven points apiece for the Yellowjackets, who led early in the third quarter before the Bobcats went on a run that bridged the third and fourth quarters.
Mackey said OHS crept to a two-possession game a couple of times in the fourth quarter, but Lansing hit its free throws to seal it.
Ellington Hopkins had 20 points for Lansing, the sixth seed for the Section Four Class C tournament. The Bobcats will host No. 10 Bainbridge-Guilford at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a first-round game.
Section Three C-1
Cooperstown earned the fifth seed for the Section Three Class C-1 Tournament and will play a quarterfinal at fourth-seeded Little Falls at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Both teams are 10-8 this season.
Wednesday’s winner will advance to a semifinal against top-seeded Beaver River (17-1) or No. 8 South Lewis (11-9) on Friday at a time and site to be determined. Beaver River hosts South Lewis at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Redskins beat Beaver River, 72-58, in last season’s Section Three Class C final en route to a spot in the state semifinals. Cooperstown graduated all five starters off of its 2012 roster.
The C-1 and C-2 finals are set for March 3 at a time to be determined at the Carrier Dome.
The overall Section Three Class C championship is scheduled for March 5 at a time and site to be determined.
