Unatego volleyball wins opener

Kali Benedict had five aces, five kills and an assist to lead visiting Unatego to a 3-1 Midstate Athletic Conference victory over Delhi in the volleyball season opener for both teams.

Hannah Bohecek, Ashley Hatzidakis and Mariah LeVeille contributed three aces apiece for the Spartans, who cruised to a 25-22, 25-13, 20-25, 25-16 victory.

Cathy Dedominicis’ five kills paced the Bulldogs, who received 11 digs from Kayla Cappiello.

Unatego will compete in the Norwich Tournament this weekend.

Delhi hosts Sidney on Wednesday.

Catherine Bush contributed eight kills for the Lumberjacks, who got eight digs from Brooke Murphy and six aces from Kyley Vandermark.

Danielle Reynolds finished with six assists, six digs, five kills and three aces to lead Walton, which will travel to Hancock on Wednesday.

Deposit is at Bainbridge-Guilford on Wednesday.

Alisha Hubbard had four aces, three kills and three assists for Afton.

Matt Johnson had an eagle and a birdie en route to an even-par 34 on the back side at Belden Hill to lead host Harpursville to a 195-235 MAC victory over Hancock.

Johnson drove to the fringe on the par-4 14th hole before sinking the ensuing putt for an eagle. He also birdied the 18th hole.

Cody Hawkins and Tyler Graham contributed 37s for the Hornets, who host Sidney on Tuesday.

Jaden Winans had a 40 to lead Hancock.
