Hole-in-one for Delhi man
Delhi resident Dickie Pearson recently hit a hole-in-one at the Stamford Golf Club.
Pearson used a 6-iron to hole his tee shot on the 183-yard, par-3 eighth hole.
Pearson and teammates Brad Anderson, Paul Roach and Robbie Anderson were playing a match against Carl Bagnardi, Gary Rockefeller, Steve Hubbard and Jon Barber. All seven witnessed Pearson’s ace.
Youth conditioning classes set
The Oneonta Family YMCA will offer Youth Sports Conditioning at the Center Street School gym from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The program is open to area youths in grades 6 through age 18 and runs from this Tuesday through Dec. 13.

Cheerleading classes start Thursday
The Oneonta Family YMCA will hold cheerleading classes for youths ages 6-9 and 10-15 starting Thursday and Friday.
Classes will focus on cheers, beginning stunting and tumbling. Beginners and those with prior cheer experience may participate.

Youth soccer tryouts Sept. 15
The Oneonta Soccer Club will hold tryouts for the 2013-14 season Sept. 15 at the Wright National Soccer Campus.
Players for U8 and U10 teams will try out from 10-11 a.m., followed by U12 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., U14 from 1-2 p.m., U16 from 2:30-3:30 p.m., and U19 from 4-5 p.m. Registration times begin one hour before tryouts for each level.
Registration fee is $30 per player. Registration and medical forms will be available at tryouts.
Cost to play at the U8 level is $100 per player.
Cost to play at the U10-U19 level is $150 per player.
The teams will play in the Broome County Soccer Association during the spring outdoor season, which runs from mid-April to late June. Indoor tournaments during the fall and winter may be played at an additional cost.
Uniform kits are required for all players but are not included in the season fees.

Free martial arts instruction
George Curbelo, the owner and head instructor of the Mountain Martial Arts Academy in Stamford, will offer free instruction for new participants during September to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the academy.
Curbelo also will hold intro classes at 10 a.m. for children and at 11 a.m. for adults on Sept. 14.

UVSC to host GNCC event
The Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin will host Round 10 of the AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series on Saturday and Sunday.
More than 1,500 professional and amateur riders will compete in Round 10 of the off-road motorcycle and ATV racing series.
In the XC1 Pro ATV class, Chris Borich leads the championship standings with six wins through nine rounds. Walker Fowler is second with two overall wins.
In the XC1 Pro motorcycle division, Factory KTM teammates Charlie Mullins and Kailub Russell sit three points apart in the championship standings.
Four-wheeled ATVs will compete throughout the day Saturday. Motorcycles will race Sunday.
Local riders are invited to race and may sign up at the track. Entry fee is $40.
Spectator passes run $15 for the full weekend, with pro pit access and pro autographs at no additional charge.
The schedule for both days starts with youth races at 8 a.m., followed by amateurs and women at 10 a.m., and top amateurs and pros at 1 p.m.

O-State to hold baseball clinic
The annual SUNY Oneonta Baseball Fall High School Clinic will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Red Dragon Baseball Field.
Registration runs from 8-9 a.m. Sunday. Entry fee is $75 and may be paid on the day of the clinic or by filling out a registration form and mailing it to SUNY Oneonta, Chase PE Building 102, Oneonta, NY 13820.
Each camper will receive a T-shirt and lunch. The camp is open to high school-aged players who’ll graduate between 2014-17.
The morning session will focus on hitting and position instruction. A live game will be played in the afternoon.

Oneonta to host 5K on Sunday
Lower Deck Events will hold its annual 5K Fun Run on Sunday at the 6th Ward playground on Scramling Avenue in Oneonta.
The race will start at noon. Race-day registration will run from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Chief Russo Memorial Playground Fund.
Water aerobics start Monday
SUNY Delhi changed the start date of its Water Aerobics Class to Monday. The first class will run from 5-6 p.m.
The college also has closed its pool until further notice.
