Jim Chancey rallied for a bogey on the final hole to protect a one-shot lead Friday as the golf pro from Kissimmee, Fla., won the 31st annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.

“I only hit one bad shot all week, but it came on the last hole,” said Chancey, who hit his tee shot into Otsego Lake on the par-5 18th hole. “I really felt good all week and the course was in tremendous shape. I’ve come to this tournament several times in the last few years and it’s always great.”

Chancey, who entered Friday’s final round with a one-stroke lead, shot a 1-under-par 70 to finish the three-day tournament at 10-under 203.

Gene Fieger (Naples, Fla.), Bob Niger (El Dorado Hills, Calif.), and Craig Thomas (White Plains) tied for second at 204. Fieger closed with a 67 on Friday, when Niger shot a 68 and first-round leader Thomas had a 70.

Javier Sanchez (Fayetteville, Ga.) rounded out the top five at 205. Sanchez, who shot a 70 on Friday, placed second at the 2012 Seniors Open.

Oneonta native Alan Schulte, now a pro from Fishers, Ind., tied for 12th place with a 212. He opened with a 70 on Wednesday and followed with rounds of 68 and 74.

Cooperstown native and Oneonta High graduate Scott Spence finished at 218 to tie for 22nd. The Galena, Ohio, resident shot 69-75-74 after leading his team to the Seniors Open Pro-Am title Tuesday.

A total of 91 senior golfers competed for a total purse of $68,950.

Proceeds from the Seniors Open benefit Pathfinder Village, a residential community in Edmeston dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s educational programs.
