Hartwick football rolls past Becker for 3-0 start

Hartwick evened the score again 31 seconds into the second half as Sarah Ryan converted a pass from Kelly Kramer. A little more than five minutes later, Fay redirected a shot by Jessica Ott for a 3-2 Hartwick lead.

Stevens tied the score in the 52nd minute, went ahead in the 54th minute and took a two-goal lead in the 68th minute.

Hartwick’s Lauren Crimi capped the scoring off a pass from Ott in the 69th minute.

Shannon Carter stopped 17 shots in goal for the Hawks, who trailed in shots (27-6) and penalty corners (24-6).

Hartwick hosts Manhattanville in a non-conference match Wednesday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Elmira 8, Hartwick 1

Caitlin O’Brien won a super-tiebreaker at fifth singles Sunday, earning a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-4 victory over Steph Tock for Hartwick’s point in an Empire 8 loss on the road.

The Hawks (3-5, 1-4) host Utica on Tuesday.

Hartwick 9, Houghton 0

Hartwick swept doubles and singles matches for the second time this season as the Hawks won their first meeting against Houghton in program history.

Kristen Napolitano and Lauren Noyes highlighted the sweep with an 8-2 win that pushed their record to 5-2 at third doubles.

VOLLEYBALL

E8 Crossovers

Sophomore hitter Hannah Strom combined for 25 kills and 20 digs Saturday, but Hartwick opened Empire 8 Crossover play with home losses to Nazareth and Ithaca.

The Hawks followed a 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 loss to two-time defending conference champion Nazareth with a 26-28, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 setback against the Bombers.

Christina Vitale contributed 33 digs overall and Quincy Kinzel had a combined 64 assists.

Hartwick (3-13, 1-2) visits Morrisville State on Thursday.

Fisher Quad

Oneonta State dropped two matches Saturday during the St. John Fisher Quad.

The Red Dragons followed a 25-22, 25-17, 25-20 loss to the host school with a 25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-16 setback against Brockport.

Bridget McHugh’s 11 kills against Fisher paced Oneonta, which received 12 assists from Jessica Pelaccio and 14 digs from Kristina Pelaccio.

Against Brockport, Jill Darpino had seven kills, Becca Horton amassed 16 assists and Kristina Pelaccio finished with 15 digs.
