Hartwick College swept singles and doubles play Tuesday for a 9-0 thumping of visiting Utica in an Empire 8 Conference women’s tennis match.
Kristen Napolitano and Lauren Noyes earned an 8-0 win to move to 6-3 in doubles play this season for the Hawks (4-5, 2-4), who also received doubles victories from Ruthie Jones and Nicole Schepisi, as well as Rebecca Clark and Michaela Finnegan.
Jones, Noyes, Clark, Schepisi and Napolitano contributed singles triumphs against the Pioneers (0-7, 0-4), as did Caitlin O’Brien.
Hartwick hosts Oneonta State at 4 p.m. Thursday for a non-conference match.
Union 3, O-State 0
Jill Darpino had nine kills, Becca Horton finished with 14 assists and Karly Greco contributed 13 assists, but Oneonta State dropped a non-conference match to visiting Union, 25-22, 28-26, 25-18.
Kristina Pelaccio amassed 21 digs, giving her 1,046 all-time for the Red Dragons (8-8).
Union improved to 11-2 overall.
O-State will play in the first of three SUNY Athletic Conference pool-play tournaments this Friday and Saturday at Cortland State.
Don Cervantas shot an 11-over 83 at the Elmira Golf Club, tying for 15th in a 46-player field to lead SUNY Cobleskill to seventh in the nine-team standings.
Elmira won the team title with 314 strokes, four ahead of SUNY Delhi. The Bulldogs’ B team placed third at 329.
Cobleskill, which finished with 347 strokes, will compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships Oct. 12-13 at the par-72 Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston, Mass.
Hartwick College selected sophomore volleyball player Hannah Strom and freshman men’s soccer forward Max Walcott as its Hawks of the Week on Tuesday.
Outside hitter Strom amassed 38 kills, 30 digs, eight aces and four blocks in three weekend volleyball matches at the Empire 8 Crossover Tournament.
Walcott scored in the 46th minute Saturday to lead Hartwick’s men to their first victory of the soccer season, a 1-0 defeat of Iona College.
