Herrick, Wells lead OHS volleyball to sweep

Brittney Herrick finished 15 kills and six digs, and Krissy Wells had 27 assists and four aces as host Oneonta High earned a 25-7, 25-21, 25-18 Southern Tier Athletic Conference victory over Norwich on Tuesday.

“We moved Brittney around a little bit and that makes her more available,” OHS coach Lee Ferrara said of Herrick, who’ll play Division I Siena next season. “It seemed to work. We’ll see where that puts us in the next couple of matches.”

The Yellowjackets (8-1) will host Susquehanna Valley on Thursday.

Sidney 3, Afton 0

Taylor Krom had eight digs, six kills and four aces to lead once-beaten Sidney to a 25-11, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of visiting Afton in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

Paige Redmond contributed six assists for the Warriors (9-1).

Emily Greenwood’s nine digs paced Afton (1-10), which received six assists from Alisha Hubbard.

Harpursville 3, Delhi 0

Abbie Miller had six aces and Megan Matts finished with eight assists as host Harpursville cruised to a MAC victory, 25-18, 25-12, 25-6, to improve to 10-0 this season.

Kayla Cappiello’s three digs and two aces paced Delhi (1-8).

Deposit 3, Unatego 0

Shelby Pettersen amassed 22 service points, with 15 on aces, to lead Deposit to a MAC victory at home.

Pettersen also had six kills and five assists for the Lumberjacks (8-2), who won, 25-22, 25-13, 25-20.

Kassie Mckee’s four aces and two kills paced the Spartans (3-7), who host Hancock today.

Deposit is at undefeated Harpursville on Thursday.

B-G 3, Walton 1

Morgan Bullis had six assists, two kills and two blocks to lead Bainbridge-Guilford to a 25-8, 20-25, 25-12, 25-11 road win in the MAC.

Amber Pierce’s five kills and six digs paced Walton (5-5), which received five digs and five assists from Danielle Reynolds.

Walton visits Oxford today. B-G (9-2) travels to Hancock on Thursday.

UV 3, Oxford 2

Nicole Mackey had 12 assists and seven kills to lead host Unadilla Valley to a 25-23, 17-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22 Midstate Athletic Conference victory. Teammate Shannon McIntyre finished with three aces, 12 assists and nine kills.

Oxford was led by Taylor Chapman, who had eight aces and nine digs. Octavia Bishop contributed 16 digs, four kills and four aces for the Blackhawks.

Unadilla Valley (7-3, 7-3) will play at Sidney on Thursday.

Hancock 3, Greene 1

Megan O’Brien had eight aces and MacKinzie Mee finished with seven kills to lead Hancock to a 19-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-7 road win in the MAC.

Kylee Letoskey contributed 12 digs for the Wildcats (5-5), who visit Unatego today.

Mary Messina’s five kills paced Greene (2-9), which hosts Unatego on Thursday.

CROSS COUNTRY

at Norwich

Logan Mancuso and Sam Baskin placed second and third, respectively, to lead Oneonta High’s boys to Southern Tier Athletic Conference victories over Norwich and Windsor.

The Yellowjackets (3-0) defeated Windsor, 15-47, and downed Norwich, 25-34.

Mancuso covered the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 52 seconds, two seconds behind Norwich’s Robert Jeffrey.

Baskin crossed in 19:16.

Missy Emilio and Jamie Keown earned respective second- and fourth-place finishes as Oneonta’s girls beat Windsor, 27-28, and Norwich, 15-50.

Emilio crossed in 25:06, five seconds ahead of Keown.

The Yellowjackets’ girls are 2-1.

Oneonta will travel to the Stock/Conwicke Invitational in Union-Endicott on Saturday.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Cooperstown 57, HP 45

Eden Griger and Lindsay Harloff won two events apiece to lead Cooperstown to a Frontier League victory at Holland Patent.

Griger took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.35) and the 100 freestyle (58.84). She also helped Cooperstown to victories in the 200 individual medley relay (2:09.73) and the 400 free relay (4:13.43).

Harloff, who swam the lead leg for the 400 free relay team, won the 200 free (2:16.28) and the 500 free (6:02.66).

Catherine Borgstrom (diving, 171.30 points) and Leandra Powers (100 breaststroke, 1:21.85) also earned victories for Cooperstown.

GOLF

at Christman’s

Michael Grant shot an even-par 34 for Gilboa, which dropped a Delaware League match to South Kortright/Andes, 186-194.

Skylar German paced SK/Andes with 42. Teammate Matt Soule finished with a 45.

Gilboa (7-2) will play Hunter-Tannersville and Jefferson at Christman’s today.
