OHS grad scores twice to lead Hartwick women

Oneonta High graduate Cami Cleaveland scored two goal to lead visiting Hartwick College to a 3-0 Empire 8 Conference women’s soccer victory over Utica College on Wednesday.

Cleaveland, a freshman who led the Yellowjackets in goals last season as they advanced to the Class B state final, opened the scoring in the 32nd minute and scored again in the 81st minute.

Cleaveland’s first goal was set up by Rachel Mick. Cristina Sicari assisted Cleaveland’s second goal.

Cleaveland scored on both of her shot attempts. For the season, she’s taken 10 shots and scored on six of them. Cleaveland is tied for the team lead in goals Angela Luizzi.

Hartwick (4-3-3, 1-2-1) took a 1-0 in the sixth minute on a rebound goal by Allyson Daniels. It marked Daniels’ fifth goal of the season.

The Hawks will travel to Stevens at 3 p.m. Saturday.

FIELD HOCKEYNew Paltz 1, Oneonta 0

New Paltz scored on an own goal in the 58th minute to beat visiting Oneonta State in a SUNY Athletic Conference game.

New Paltz’s Jessica Caruana took a free hit that Red Dragons goalie Tess Tracy re-directed into the goal as O-State fell to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in conference. New Paltz also is 6-4.

The Red Dragons were outshot, 20-8, and put two shots on goal, both by Andrea Day.

Tracy made 10 saves for O-State, which will travel to Houghton College at noon Saturday.
