Hartwick men upset at Buffalo

Following victories over Akron and West Virginia, two of the strongest teams in the Mid-American Conference, visiting Hartwick College fell, 2-1, to a University of Buffalo squad that came into Tuesday’s men’s soccer game with one victory.

Will Bloomfield scored with about five minutes remaining to halve the Hawks’ deficit, but Buffalo hung on for the MAC victory.

Marcus Hanson scored in the 16th minute and Russell Cicerone made it 2-0 in the 77th minute as Buffalo improved to 2-8-3 overall and 1-2 in the MAC.

Hartwick (4-6-2, 2-1) was outshot, 16-10.

Hanson’s first goal of the season came after Nicolai Berry played a throughball into the box. Hartwick goalie Mateo Munarriz had it briefly before fumbling it. Hanson was there to kick in the rebound.

Cicerone’s fourth goal of the season came receiving a pass from Hanson, who was on the left side. Cicerone dribbled to the middle before scoring into the upper right corner.

Bloomfield’s team-leading fourth goal of the season started after Marc Russell sent a pass across the top of the box. Bloomfield controlled it before beating a defender and scoring on a 12-yard shot to the upper right corner.

Hartwick opened conference play with a 2-0 victory over then ninth-ranked Akron. It followed with a 1-0 win over West Virginia on Saturday.

The Hawks’ three-game winning streak was snapped.

Hartwick, which is 3-1-1 at home, will host Western Michigan in a conference game at 3 p.m. Saturday.


O-State 4, Hartwick 0

Sara Rattigan scored twice, and Kelcy Forbragd had a goal and two assists as the host Red Dragons beat their inner-city rivals in a non-conference game.

Rattigan opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Forbragd sent a pass in front of the net that Rattigan tipped into the goal.

Andrea Day’s 11th goal of the season gave O-State a 2-0 lead in the 38th minute. She finished a pass from Sierra Earle.

Hannah Heyward set up Forbragd’s goal in the 52nd minute. Heyward’s pass from the right side found Forbragd in the middle and she converted for her 13th goal of the season.

Rattigan capped the scoring in the 59th minute off assists from Forbragd and Day.

O-State improves to 10-4. It will travel to play the University of Scranton at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Hartwick (4-10) will play at St. John Fisher at 11 a.m. Saturday.


Cobleskill 3, Green Mountain 0

Senior Amber Baker had nine aces and five kills, and Kady Porterfield contributed eight aces and five kills to lead host SUNY Cobleskill to a 25-7, 25-10, 25-12 non-conference victory on Senior Night.

The Fighting Tigers (10-14) finished with a 28 aces in a match that took 49 minutes to complete.

Senior Casey Holbert had 10 assists and five aces for Cobleskill, which will travel to Morrisville, N.J. on Friday for North Eastern Athletic Conference Inter-Divisional play.


ADPRO Invitational

SUNY Delhi finished sixth out of nine teams in the ADPRO Sports Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the par-72 course at Turning Stone.

The Broncos finished with 946 strokes in the 54-hole tournament. St. Thomas Aquinas won with 885.

Dill Walsh-MacGregor led Delhi with a T17th-place finish. He shot rounds of 78, 77 and 78.

James Partridge finished 22nd for Delhi. He followed an opening-round 81 with a 79 and a 76.

It marked the final event of the fall season for Delhi.
