Morris 4, Roxbury 1

Freshman Meghan Barringer scored two goals to lead fourth-seeded Morris to victory in the opening round of the Section Four Class D Tournament.

“She played one of her best games tonight,” Morris coach Rhoda Flint said of Barringer, who had both of the Mustangs’ goals in the second half.

Barringer beat the Roxbury defense to draw goalie Lisa Boyke (13 saves) out of position, then scored unassisted with 22:51 left for a 3-0 Morris lead.

After the Mustangs gave up a goal on an 18-yard direct kick to the upper-far corner by Shannon Sprague, Barringer struck again with another one-on-one against Boyke. Alexis Forgit’s throughball set up Barringer, who touched it past Boyke for the final margin.

Forgit and Liana Garry scored first-half goals for the Mustangs, who finished with a 20-3 advantage in shots.

Roxbury, the 13th seed out of the Delaware League, finished the season 7-8-1.

Kaylyn Oliver stopped two shots in goal for Tri-Valley League runner-up Morris, which hosts a quarterfinal against fifth-seeded Delhi on Friday.
