O-State women top Hartwick, 4-0

Staff Report

Sophomores Kayla Ceschini and Jessica Lyden scored in the first half Wednesday, leading Oneonta State past host Hartwick College, 4-0, in a non-conference women’s soccer game that closed its regular season.

Ceschini opened the scoring in the 30th minute, collecting a Hartwick goal kick and dribbling into the 18-yard box to set up her fifth goal of the season.

Less than three minutes later, Lyden tracked down a loose ball in the box following a corner kick by classmate Liz Lasota and scored for a 2-0 lead.

Seniors Amanda Regensburger and Melissa Guglielmo contributed second-half goals for the Red Dragons (10-4-3), who got an assist from senior Karly DeSimone.

Regensburger scored her third goal of the season in the 70th minute and Guglielmo made it 4-0 less than two minutes later off a pass from DeSimone.

Goalies Becky Fildes and Kelley Murphy combined on the shutout for O-State, which finished with advantages of 17-5 in shots and 10-0 in corner kicks against the Hawks (7-7-3).

The Red Dragons are off until hosting an 11 a.m. SUNY Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal Nov. 6. Regular-season SUNYAC champion Oneonta will play Brockport or Oswego, who will play a quarterfinal this Saturday.

O-State 4, Utica 3

Ashley Morgan scored the winning goal 13:18 into overtime as Oneonta State defeated host Utica in a non-conference game.

Morgan dribbled past three defenders before scoring into the right side of the goal for Oneonta (12-6), which allowed Utica (13-4) to tie the score with 3:04 left in regulation.

The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Colleen Dowling converted off a penalty corner. A little more than a minute later, Kelcy Forbragd tied it off a pass from Andrea Day.

Hannah Mackey’s unassisted goal six minute later helped Utica to a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Day’s 15th goal of the season came in the 51st minute, off an assist from Morgan, to tie the score at 2. Walton graduate Erin Butler followed with a goal off a pass from Sara Rattigan to put Oneonta ahead, 3-2, in the 54th minute.
