The Daily Star

---- — Staff Report

Unatego and Elmira Notre Dame will each take seven-game winning streaks into their Section Four Class D football semifinal at 4 p.m. Saturday at Binghamton Alumni Stadium.

The Spartans (7-1) won Division V of the Section Four Football Conference with a 5-0 record against division opponents. END (7-1) went 5-0 for the D-VII title.

Neither team has lost since Week 1, when Unatego fell, 54-13, at Chenango Forks and END forfeited to two-time defending Class D sectional champion Tioga because of a lack of eligible players.

D-VI champion Tioga (8-0) will play D-VII runner-up Spencer Van-Etten (6-2) in the other semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday at Binghamton Alumni Stadium.

Saturday’s winners will meet for the sectional crown at noon Nov. 19 at the same site.

On Monday, Section Four also announced Week 9 matchups for non-playoff teams. At 7 p.m. Friday, Delhi (3-5) will visit Oneonta High (1-7), Bainbridge-Guilford (2-6) will host Oxford (1-7), and Walton (5-3) will be at Sidney (4-4).

OHS to play for title

Oneonta High will play Southern Tier Athletic Conference rival Chenango Forks for the Section Four Class B championship at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta, OHS athletic director Joe Hughes announced Thursday.

The second-seeded Yellowjackets (12-4) are coming off a 3-1 victory over Dryden last Saturday, when fourth-seeded Chenango Forks (9-7) upset No. 1 seed Susquehanna Valley, 1-0, in overtime.

Norwich to host finals

Oneonta High and Unatego will play for sectional championships Friday at Norwich High.

The Southern Tier Athletic Conference champion Yellowjackets, seeded second at 15-2-1, will play conference rival and top-seeded Seton Catholic Central (12-2-1) at 5 p.m. Friday in the Section Four Class B title game.

Unatego (15-2-1) and Lansing (17-0) will follow at 7 p.m. in the Class C sectional final. Midstate Athletic Conference champion Unatego is seeded third, two spots below Interscholastic Athletic Conference champ Lansing.

Section Four also announced Thursday that the Class D final between No. 2 Cherry Valley-Springfield (14-2-1) and top-seeded Milford (17-1) will start at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the WNSC. Both teams hail from the Tri-Valley League. Milford is the reigning league champion.
